Historia
Penniless and downtrodden at the loss of his wife and one of his daughters, Samuel Clemens turned to writing. The short stories and essays in Letters from the Earth find Clemens—under the pseudonym of Mark Twain—at perhaps his most quizzical and questioning state ever. Written as diary entries, Twain penned a series of letters from the point of view of a dejected angel on Earth who observes the many curious natures of man. These pieces, gathered by Twain's literary executor, feature sharp takes on the inconsistencies of Christianity and farcical criticisms of American life.

Historia
"I am alone in the dark, turning the world around in my head as I struggle through another bout of insomnia, another white night in the great American wilderness." So begins Paul Auster's brilliant, devastating tale about the many realities we inhabit as wars flame all around us. Seventy-two-year-old August Brill is recovering from a car accident in his daughter's house in Vermont. When sleep refuses to come, he lies in bed and tells himself stories, struggling to push back thoughts about things he would prefer to forget—his wife's recent death and the murder of his granddaughter's boyfriend.

Excellent study on housing situation

Being in Florida real estate this book was fascinating to me. The explosive growth and rapidly increasing housing values have shut out so many people and this author gives a very informed picture of the current situation

Historia
In Being Mortal, best-selling author Atul Gawande tackles the hardest challenge of his profession: how medicine can not only improve life but also the process of its ending. Medicine has triumphed in modern times, transforming birth, injury, and infectious disease from harrowing to manageable. But in the inevitable condition of aging and death, the goals of medicine seem too frequently to run counter to the interest of the human spirit.

As a caregiver this book is so helpful
Revisado: 09-09-19
My wife is suffering with AngioSarcoma an extremely rare cancer that was found on her spleen and was removed on January 7,2019. Also removed was her spleen, a kidney and adrenal gland. By March the tumor was back, by August it has tripled and in a two week period it grew from 9CM wide to 10.6 wide. She’s now in Palliative care, there are other tumors all inoperable. AS is a very aggressive cancer and her Dr at M D Anderson Cancer Center says she is one of the most aggressive cases. With that said I found this book at the exact time I needed it to help understand why the Doctors are doing what they are and to get a better understanding of hospice that I know we will be faced with soon. Her Dr admits the current radiation she’s on is only hoped to help with her pain and perhaps it may slow the growth down or even reduce the tumor size, yet he says this cancer does not respond to radiation and if such slowing happens it will be temporary. She’s been on 3 chemos none have worked and have made her extremely sick. I’ve watched her go through hell and I think it’s been needless. Her Dr’s have not been forthcoming with giving her the talk yet they admit to me this cancer will take her life. They mentioned she may want to come off treatment and on hospice and that made her very angry as she is hanging onto the Hope where he said “this may slow the growth” she said he was giving up on her. I understand all of this much better after listening to this book and Dr Atui Gawande I thank you for writing it.
