Historia
America is a barren landscape of smoldering ashes, devoid of life except for those people still struggling to scratch out some type of existence. Amidst this destruction, a father and his young son walk, always toward the coast, but with no real understanding that circumstances will improve once they arrive. Still, they persevere, and their relationship comes to represent goodness in a world of utter devastation.

this is the most depression book I've ever listened to
Revisado: 03-23-24
The voice acting was really good. The book itself is the most depressing thing I've ever listened to. It is not entertaining to listen to a story about people slowly dying. unless you're into that kind of thing. I think I'm going to go lie down in silence, and try to think about nothing.

Historia
King Shrewd is dead at the hands of his son Regal. As is Fitz - or so his enemies and friends believe. But with the help of his allies and his beast magic, he emerges from the grave, deeply scarred in body and soul. The kingdom also teeters toward ruin: Regal has plundered and abandoned the capital, while the rightful heir, Prince Verity, is lost to his mad quest - perhaps to death. Only Verity's return - or the heir his princess carries - can save the Six Duchies.

why do authors do this?
Revisado: 07-21-23
I know drama drives books like this, but why do authors consistently beat down their protagonist? It just feels like one thing after another good wrong or doesn't work. I know the idea is to build up to the end where the protagonist finally succeeds, but this is a 38-hour book. Good or even great things can happen in the middle of the book without ruining the good things immediately afterward. Hell, even the ending of the book isn't all that great for the protagonist.
with the exception of the above complaint(which is a big deal), the book was well written. I liked certain characters, and while the ending was a bit bitter, it did close the trilogy out fairly nicely.

Historia
When the neighbours in question are the proud empires of Klatch and Ankh-Morpork, those are going to be some pretty large garden tools indeed. Of course, no-one would dream of starting a war without a perfectly good reason...such as a 'strategic' piece of old rock in the middle of nowhere. It is after all every citizen's right to bear arms to defend their own. Even if it isn't technically their own. And even if they don't have much in the way of actual weaponry.

The narrator made me want to sleep
Revisado: 06-22-23
These books are supposed to be quick and witty. The first three books narrated in the City Watch series were great. I've been listening to the death series of Discworld. It's fantastic. I feel like audible almost sabatoged this novel. The narrator is so boring that you can't tell when a joke is being said. you may have enjoyed the other novels, but skip this... or read the physical version.

Had me laughing out loud
Revisado: 04-28-23
This is my first Terry Prachet novel. I had no idea what to expect. I have never laughed so hard at a book. It's very British humor, but I found this so much funnier than any British movie or television show I've watched. it's something about how casually he mentions certain funny actions that tickles my funny bone.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. awesome novel
Revisado: 10-28-22
the whole series rocks. I would appreciate if harry wasn't simply worse at magic than every other wizard. Molly was better than Harry after a few years... Carlos is better than him despite Carlos being much newer. not to mention a certain friendamy that has been practicing magic for a very short period of time.

Revisado: 08-18-21
but when they say in the book that someone said something with a boom...I want the voice actor to at least exclame that's supposed to be booming... but the voice actor just says it like anything else... it really takes me out of it.

each novel gets better.
Revisado: 10-17-19
first two novels were rough... and about halfway through this book I started thinking they the writer must have a very poor vision of what a strong woman is. by the end of the book the characters looked much better. almost stopped listening halfway through, but in glad I didn't.
