Interesting- good writing. Drags a bit.
Revisado: 10-09-24
Lots of detail at times makes it drag but good writing with a fairly unpredictable outcome. Scary situation that seemingly could happen to many of us. Be careful who you trust or ask to be in your life.

Historia
In February 1959, a group of nine experienced hikers in the Russian Ural Mountains died mysteriously on an elevation known as Dead Mountain. Eerie aspects of the incident—unexplained violent injuries, signs that they cut open and fled the tent without proper clothing or shoes, a strange final photograph taken by one of the hikers, and elevated levels of radiation found on some of their clothes—have led to decades of speculation over what really happened.

Absolutely ridiculously bad narration. I couldn’t even remotely pay attention. When I forced myself to listen I couldn’t understand why he was going back and forth with his own travels and stories - all over the place writing with not enough about the subject we all wanted to read about. I can’t believe the positive reviews but some people like anything they hear or read apparently.
This is not good. Sample it before buying so you will know. I wish I had.

The open house is slow, but when her last visitor pulls up in a van as she’s about to leave, Annie thinks it just might be her lucky day after all.

ASSAULT SURVIVORS - DO NOT READ THIS BOOK
Revisado: 03-21-24
Wish I could do zero stars.
It takes a ridiculous amount of bad for me to get offended or bothered and this book goes far past my boundary. This feels like a disgusting rape/ porn book and I couldn’t get through “session” 6. I don’t know if it ends this way but it continues to hint that she will soon like being assaulted by him. The sexuality involved in the rape scenes is absolutely triggering and frankly totally absurd and gross. I can not believe anyone would ever think this plot line would be entertaining and the only way it seems it would be is in a pornographic setting ; which is of course absolutely horrifying. It’s not ok to normalize or sensationalize sexual assault. I can’t speak for all victims but I found it nauseating on every level. I stopped at chapter 6 when she was again acting like she liked it “and he got hard” and I’m returning it for my money back. I don’t want a dime of my money to go to this author. No matter how it ends - the first chapters strongly give the impression that a victim may end up enjoying being abducted and repeatedly assaulted.
Do yourself a favor and put your money toward authors who don’t set victims back 60 years. Shame on this writer.

Very interesting but WAY TOO LONG
Revisado: 07-22-23
Whyyyy was that so many episodes with some of the same people saying the same thing over and over again ??
The story was absolutely fascinating with a detective and journalist who truly were great characters as themselves speaking their truths.
But then there were way too many other interviews and people repeating the same thing for sometimes half an episode.
The editing is the biggest problem. I had to fast forward several parts that it seemed no one paid attention to at all and just put in to make longer?
Anyway the story is crazy and fascinating but be prepared to have many many things on loop for the next 15 hours or however long. Maybe listen to it on a faster speed.

YOU WILL NEVER LISTEN TO OTHERS AGAIN
Revisado: 05-11-23
Trust me. If you are reading reviews trying to decide which podcast to try and listen to - if you are tired of listening to others describe horrible crime details while giggling over wine and long unwanted necessary stories about themselves - if you have not tried SWORD AND SCALE and the amazing narrator, Mike Boudet-
LOOK NO FURTHER. I am serious. You will never be able to listen to the others again. You will find them insufferable and disrespectful. You will notice holes or inconsistencies in their stories and you’ll end up fast forwarding through; only to then decide to just start over and listen to what you know and love and watch for the new ones that always come.
Mike uses instinctual expert timing and a perfect pace to weave together incredibly researched crime stories. Even if you think you know the story inside and out, you will want to hear Mike’s analysis of the facts and quiet but never wavering respect for all victims.
No other podcaster gets attacked as often or criticized as personally and unfairly. However Mike is committed to the cause that we all love more than anyone and he truly knows these cases so well and is always one step ahead of other podcasters with recent cases and updates.
A friend of mine at work used to spend each shift sharing earbuds and one day I told him he HAD to listen to Sword and Scale. He says which one ? I said ANY. DOES NOT MATTER.
As I knew he would - he was blown away. We both owe so much gratitude toward Sword and Scale because our work performance and overall contentment there has tripled probably. We text about the details of the shows later and joke that something finally has made us want to actually get to work each day.
… not really a joke. It’s that good.
Trust someone who has heard each one at least twice.
And if for some reason you DON’T love it the way most people do- we are gonna need you just to move it along anyway. Kick rocks.
Not interested in negativity or futile attempts to affect his success. He’s going nowhere and I’m so grateful for how much I know this is true.

Revisado: 05-10-23
Poor tiny baby - it is absolutely unfathomable that anyone could do these horrific things to a baby.
Casefile is the only podcast expert enough to handle a case this horrifying. The sensitivity always shown to victims by the narrator who remains anonymous so all attention goes to the victims is absolutely better than anyone else ever.
This episode really touched me and has a heartbreaking end as well so be prepared.

Lots of experts deciding she’s a liar
Revisado: 05-09-23
I have no idea how so many people don’t believe this can be true. Have they not seen the world we live in ? The effects of being isolated when you didn’t have a family in the first place. To everyone calling her a liar - that is really cruel and if you’re wrong - imagine what you have done to her mental health ?
The narration was excellent and convincing. I think there were too many graphic r*** details that are unnecessary to the story but perhaps that is how she heals. I for one have no issue believing the story because I’ve worked with victims. Those who are so judgmental will unfortunately have something terrible happen someday that makes them realize how awful they were to others when the judgment comes back to them the same way.
Only when some people actually experience trauma can they understand and empathize with others. Which is terribly sad. It’s a depressing and scary story that happens more often than the other readers appear to be aware of. Educate yourself before deciding someone is a liar.

How are there so many good reviews??
Revisado: 05-09-23
Ugh- I bought this based on the amount of amazing reviews and absolutely wish I had not listened to them. Jon is a boring and flat writer with excruciating self serving details and a nauseating way of judging everyone around him at all times. The letter from Fisher’s sister summed it all up quickly and accurately- by calling him out for his admitted failure to help at all and then criticize each leader as they tried so desperately to save the lives of those around them. How can he expect to “find peace” with the constant heaping of judgment on the deceased?
Truly even the details about the storm were confusing with too much over-description. The narrator in his whiny judgey voice was the perfect choice to ensure many would dislike the author and even more.
Somehow I made it all the way through but only because I changed the speed to 1.5 and fast forwarded through a lot of it. Don’t lose precious hours of your life and just google the news story for the info.

The author describes the experience of being in bombed-out, dangerous, post-war Nuremberg, where she lived for two years while working on the trial. This landmark trial resulted in the establishment of the Nuremberg Code, which sets the guidelines for medical research involving human beings. Doctors from Hell is a significant addition to the literature on World War II and the Holocaust, medical ethics, human rights, and the barbaric depths to which human beings can descend.

Important topics. Painful narration.
Revisado: 04-14-23
How was this person chosen to read this? If the topic wasn’t so absolutely tragic and devastating, the narration would cause readers to laugh out loud while cringing. Also the court reporter goes back and forth between talking of her travels and life as a reporter to the details of the experiments. It is a choppy and awkward connection that constantly had me looking to see if I accidentally switched to another book.
I ended up fast forwarding to what I came to hear about - the experiments and the trials. The author describing her earring being taken by a bird was the end for me. I could not force myself to suffer anymore.
If you are interested in what the book claims to be about - the horrific experiments - find another book. Out of all the pages in this book, about 20 are relevant to the claimed topic.
