Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Historia
Most people think of themselves as “good", but it’s not always easy to determine what’s “good” or “bad” - especially in a world filled with complicated choices and pitfalls and booby traps and bad advice. Fortunately, many smart philosophers have been pondering this conundrum for millennia, and they have guidance for us. With bright wit and deep insight, How to Be Perfect explains concepts like deontology, utilitarianism, existentialism, ubuntu, and more, so we can sound cool at parties and become better people.

Helps Me To Realize It’s All Made Up
Revisado: 08-14-23
I really enjoyed learning about all of the different ethical philosophers because it helped me realize these are all just a bunch of opinions.
By hearing all of these opinions, I can pick and choose the ones I like best and not feel bad about not picking just one.
My catholic upbringing (guilt, shame, a worry about getting into heaven) made this difficult but now I’m good.
The book was a good reminder to me that it’s okay to create your own “religion” or belief system.
I’m not sure that’s what the author was going for but that was my takeaway.

Historia
Journalist Simone Stolzoff traces how work has come to dominate Americans’ lives—and why we find it so difficult to let go. Based on groundbreaking reporting and interviews with Michelin star chefs, Wall Street bankers, overwhelmed teachers and other workers across the American economy, Stolzoff exposes what we lose when we expect work to be more than a job. Rather than treat work as a calling or a dream, he asks what it would take to reframe work as a part of life rather than the entirety of our lives. What does it mean for a job to be good enough?

Eyal lays bare the secret of finally doing what you say you will do with a four-step, research-backed model. Indistractable reveals the key to getting the best out of technology, without letting it get the best of us.

A Life Changing Book for a “Saver”
Revisado: 09-20-21
For the past 10 years, our family went from a negative net worth to over $1 million.
That was due in part to our higher than average income and our ability to save and invest about 50% of what we had coming in.
I have been seeking “what’s next” for our family plan and this book opened my eyes to the fact that life is for living.
Life is not about the collection of money but the collection of life experiences. Once you’ve made all the important financial moves, it’s time to enjoy. Thank you for that reminder Bill Perkins.
I’m so glad I found this book at this point in my life. The next few decades look bright for our young family.

Historia
One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

Changed My View of Selfishness
Revisado: 05-16-20
I used to view “selfishness” as something that was abhorrent. After listening to Ayn Rand’s “The Fountainhead”, I see the value and virtue of following your heart and not concerning yourself with the views of the collective.
As a family man, I do find it difficult to be selfish. In fact, it’s not something I want to be in totality. Perhaps finding a balance between following my heart and helping my kids and wife follow theirs is a place I’ll explore further.
