Historia
Mort Crim has reported on major conflicts around the world for more than four decades and was a major inspiration for Will Ferrell’s performance in the movie Anchorman. Crim’s memoir takes listeners behind the camera to show what life was like when the local anchorman was as revered as the professional athlete and just as overpaid. It was a glamorous life, working alongside some of journalism’s legends: Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, Dan Rather, and Ted Koppel.

Introspective Struggle That Defies Time
Revisado: 09-01-24
Mr. Crim's story is interesting and each chapter flows along easily leaving the reader wanting to know more without feeling like he skipped corners that would make him look "bad". His personal struggles with faith and staying true to personal values are well explained and a familiar struggle for many of us who were raised in strong religious homes. He gave me hope that one day I too will come to a place of peace in my own struggles with balancing logic and faith. In addition, as a Metro-Detroiter it was a treat to listen to his familiar and comforting voice once again!

Historia
Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he'd proposed, figuring that she'd be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. Except...she wasn't. The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her... and more. Did he think she was mad?

Historia
The year was 1917. As a war raged across the world, young American women flocked to work, painting watches, clocks, and military dials with a special luminous substance made from radium. It was a fun job, lucrative and glamorous - the girls themselves shone brightly in the dark, covered head to toe in the dust from the paint. They were the radium girls. As the years passed, the women began to suffer from mysterious and crippling illnesses.

History comes to life

Great reminder of what has been gained and at what cost when people are complaining of the regulations of the government. These women should have lived normal lives if the companies had been honest.

Historia
In this Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, historian Barbara Tuchman brings to life the people and events that led up to World War I. This was the last gasp of the Gilded Age, of Kings and Kaisers and Czars, of pointed or plumed hats, colored uniforms, and all the pomp and romance that went along with war. How quickly it all changed...and how horrible it became.

Detailed account of the summer and fall in 1914
Revisado: 05-17-24
I thought the book was well written however beware that it does only cover the beginning of the war and causes of the war. Good book for those with a understanding of the war that would be interested in a deep dive into the causes of the war.

Historia
In this vast and gorgeous tapestry of a novel, serf and master, Cossack and tsar, priest and Jew are brought together in a family saga which unrolls through centuries of history to reveal that most impenetrable and mysterious of lands - Russia. Through the life of a little town east of Moscow in the Russian heartland, Edward Rutherfurd creates a sweeping family saga from the baffling contradictions of Russia's culture and her peoples - bleak yet exotic, brutal but romantic, land of ritual yet riddled with superstitious fears.

Needs a trigger warning
Revisado: 04-24-24
I have liked the authors other titles however, Russka, had events happen without foreshadowing that were uncomfortable and could cause problems for those who have dealt with these issues. I do not want to spoil the book by stating what happened however, I believe that there should be trigger warnings for those who are interested. Having read his other books I was not prepared for this.

Historia
How much of our daily caloric intake comes from ingesting substances that, technically speaking, do not meet traditional definitions of “food”? Chances are, if you’re eating something that came wrapped in plastic and contains a funky ingredient you don’t have in your kitchen, it's most likely—almost definitely—ultra-processed food, or UPF.

Eye Opening!
Revisado: 01-21-24
This book was very informative. This book led me to doing further research to back up the information given. I appreciate that the author backed up everything said with studies and articles. I also appreciated that he cited the other side of the argument with citations. This book has been life changing and led to me changing how I feed my family. I hope that these changes stick for my children. I found out about this book from the author's interview with NPR that was replayed around Christmas. I am so glad that I caught his interview in it's entirety because this book has truly shifted the paradigms from which I saw the world of nutrition, food, the food industry, and government oversight of food additives or the lack thereof. I will admit that even after listening to the interview I had to look up the books name on NPR's website.
This book would be helpful for people who are not only interested in nutrition. It has a lot of information on food and the economy as well as the effects that Ultra Processed foods have had on climate change and the environment. I think people who are interested in government oversight specifically the FDA and it's oversight on food here in the US.
The only issue that I had was during the segments between the author and his brother the volume amc clarity was quite different between the two speakers. When I raised my volume up to hear one, it was then quite loud when the other speaker would respond. Unfortunately, I know that I did not gain the full content of these sections due to that. I think that this could be helped by perhaps adding these sections as a readable text for people who have the same issue I did. I listened to this on several Alexa devices and my phone to ensure it wasn't a device issue. I did not lower any of my scores because the information overall exceeded my expectations.
