This may be one of the most beautiful things I've ever read. The choice of narrator was superb. He mixes all the charm and wonder of the story with the elegance of the prose perfectly. It is no wonder this book and audiobook are so highly reviewed.

Adaptation

If you're a fan of Black Sails this is the adaptation that connects the two best, I think. You can almost reconcile the Silver from the show with this Silver. I listened to this before I saw the show and it certainly made the show interesting.

Favorite Ending of All Time

Given how flippant and irrelevant Johannes Cabal the Necromancer was, The Fall of the House of Cabal is a testament to Howard's gifts as an artist. The series has bounced from genre to genre and one increasingly insane misadventure after another. The series could have gotten lost in its own jokes and world building,
but with this last book Howard mixes his ability to tell several interconnected short stories with subtle and beautiful characterizations. The very last scene of this book is one of the most moving and beautiful I've come across yet. I re-read the entire series twice in a month, I loved it so much.

I wanted to like it but he's too big of an asshole without a foil to make him charming. And the exposition! oh the unnecessary exposition!

An excellent start.

Despite being the second book of the series I think this one better captures the Weird I was looking for, where the first book only hinted at it. The demons clearly have personalities but I think Tanzer struggles a little with longer stories. I'd love to see an anthology featuring the exploits of these demons through time. while the lives of the humans are interesting, they are, after all, just tools for the demons. I loved the narrator's accent. I enjoy Tanzer's imagination. looking forward to the next book.

The book starts out light enough, and you think it'll be a simple adventure tale. You know, farm boy saves the town kind of thing. Turns out there are some fairly dark moments that handle very adult concepts. I love Kate Reading's performance. She's a wonderful narrator. The book itself is fun overall. The entire series is. If you're looking for something ground breaking and mind blowing, this is not it. There isn't a whole lot of innovation to be found here. However, if you are looking for something fun to listen to on a long trip, this is perfect. The characters are charming and plot has enough twists to keep you entertained
