Historia
Always on the periphery, looking on, young Frankie Howe was never quite sure enough of herself to take center stage—after all, life had already judged her harshly. Now old, Frankie finds it easier to forget the life that came before. Then Damian, a young Irish caretaker, arrives at her London flat, there to keep an eye on her as she recovers from a fall. A memory is sparked, and the past crackles into life as Damian listens to the story Frankie has kept stored away all these years.

Maybe Graham's best yet!
Revisado: 02-02-25
Beautifully written, with finely-drawn, believable and likeable characters, perfectly narrated by Graham. The kind of story where you're sorry to reach the end and you miss the people afterward! I've ordered a printed copy to pass around. Love it.

Couldn't get through it. . .
Revisado: 05-27-24
It's a promising plot/premise, but it's ruined (for me) by too much flowery writing, filler detail and overdrama.

Nice intro to those who served.
Revisado: 03-13-24
I'm aware that I'm not in Ms Hannah's target demographic, and I didn't enjoy it as much as others do and will. I listened to the first half, then skipped the second half until the last chapter. In the afterword Ms Hannah listed source books which were accounts from real nurses who served in Vietnam, and I've listened to several of those and have mined the many related resources on YouTube. So. . .I'm very grateful for the introduction to the real people and events which this book provides.

Historia
It is the spring of 1945, and in a dusty, remote community, the world’s most brilliant minds have come together in secret. Their mission: to split an atom and end a war. But among those who have come to Robert Oppenheimer’s "enchanted campus" of foreign-born scientists, baffled guards, and restless wives is a simple man in search of a killer. Michael Connolly has been sent to the middle of nowhere to investigate the murder of a security officer on the Manhattan Project.

Compelling story, but flawed audio presentation!
Revisado: 12-10-23
I agree with all the previous reviews disparaging the overly dramatic and extraneous and unnecessary musical additions to the narrative. They do NOTHING to improve the audiobook. Narrator is fine. You at Audible have had enough complaints now to re-master the recording and take out EVERYTHING but the narrator. As for the story. . .I found the ending a bit preachy and pat as well as quite abrupt. But overall I really enjoyed the story and am now looking forward to watching the movie "Oppenheimer" in conjunction. Also looking forward to more Kanon titles.

Historia
It’s just another day in Paradise, if Paradise was in Detroit. In the quaint, coastal town of Port St. Joe, FL, Sheriff Evan Caldwell had been called out to the fancy new development to appease its influential owner and look into his missing shrubbery. He did not go out there to work a homicide, but since the old man in the pajamas probably didn’t bury himself, a homicide investigation is pretty much mandatory.

Historia
When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

I was skeptical when I started, but soon became hooked. There were many chances for it to get hinky, but it never went off the rails and I celebrated how each crisis was handled. Loved the characters! Going right into the sequel. Thanks guys!!!

I didn't want it to end. . .
Revisado: 02-20-23
Yes, I'll go ahead and add to the multiples of times it's been said: the author is a genius. This book is dense and meticulously written. It took me a bit to get used to listening to all the online conversations, but I absolutely love the characters and enjoy so much being in their company. The author puts the reader right there with them, without excessive, forced descriptive language. I confess I'm a bit weary of Strike and Robin's continual dance around each other after 5 years. . .the series certainly wouldn't be ruined for me if they finally revealed themselves to each other and became a grounded couple.

Historia
On a whim, Grady Kendall applies to work as a live-in caretaker for a luxury property in Hawaiʻi, as far from his small-town Maine life as he can imagine. Within days he's flying out to an estate on remote Hokuloa Road, where he quickly uncovers a dark side to the island’s idyllic reputation: it has long been a place where people vanish without a trace. When a young woman from his flight becomes the next to disappear, Grady is determined—and soon desperate—to figure out what's happened to Jessie, and to all those staring out of the island’s “missing" posters.

This story immerses you in Hawaiian culture and environment. . .and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The main character is realistic and appealing, and there's just enough touch of supernatural without going overboard (!). Recommended.

Historia
Happy Doll is a charming, if occasionally inexpert, private detective living just one sheer cliff drop beneath the Hollywood sign with his beloved half-Chihuahua half-Terrier, George. A veteran of both the Navy and LAPD, Doll supplements his meager income as a P.I. by working through the night at a local Thai spa that offers its clients a number of special services. Armed with his 16-inch steel telescopic baton, biting dry humor, and just a bit of a hero complex, the ex-cop sets out to protect the women who work there from clients who have trouble understanding the word "no".
