Steve Pemberton's recounting of his life growing up is an amazing testimony to his resiliency and determination to become something greater than what he was born into. What he had to endure as a small child, and young adult, is shocking and heartbreaking. I've had the pleasure of meeting Steve on a couple of occasions, and witnessing his positive attitude and friendly demeanor I would have never imagined his life growing up to be like this. It's an amazing story.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The summary is very misleading. This book reads like a college physics textbook. I was very disappointed. Don't waste a credit; unless you like listening to college physics textbooks.

Has A Short History of Nearly Everything turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yes

How did the narrator detract from the book?

No. The only good part of the listen.

Would you listen to Lean In again? Why?

Absolutely! Very inspirational. Some excellent, common sense advice for all career women. The narrator was also very good.

What disappointed you about Inferno?

The author spent more time explaining, in painstaking detail, the history of the tourist attractions of Venice and Florence Italy than building the plot. Repeated situations a lot; i.e you'd have to listen to each character's reaction to the video.....every detail over and over throughout the novel. It really didn't hold my attention at all.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Narration was good.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Narration. You'll pick up quite a lot of early Italian history....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely. So very well written and was easy to get caught up in the lives of the characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Abeliene. Her quiet grace while suffering the indignities of the times.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I'm a Southerner, so I appreciated a genuine accent by the narrator. Made the tale more sincere to me.

What disappointed you about Lair of the Lion?

The over descriptive narrative of the characters emotions. Each encounter broke off into a mundane, often repeated description. The tale just didn't go anywhere for me, simply because of the overly

Has Lair of the Lion turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not this genre, definitely the author.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Abby Craden?

Someone/anyone who could do a decent male character voice.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Lair of the Lion?

The scene where the two main characters share tea in the dining hall together...made no sense and went off on another turmoil filled description of the internal struggles of the main characters that went on and on.

Maybe I got lost/frustrated with all the descriptive narrative, but did I miss a physical description of the lead female character?

Any additional comments?

Not every thought a character has should be followed with three long sentences comparing them to the wind, nature, etc. Sometimes/most times

If you could sum up My Long Trip Home in three words, what would they be?

The characters came to life. The author managed to immerse you in his life. One of the most well written books I've ever read.

What was one of the most memorable moments of My Long Trip Home?

His father moving the family to California, only to end up in divorce. His struggle to grow up without help from his Father.

What does Robertson Dean bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Very smooth narration. I actually thought it was the author, he read it so well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me very empathetic and sometimes angry at the Father.

Would you try another book from David Rock and/or Bob Walter?

No

What was most disappointing about David Rock’s story?

This book was more physical science than any useful information

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Your Brain at Work?

The in depth explanations of the various regions of the brain

Any additional comments?

Was painful to listen to

Professional speaker did a great job. The content is not for anyone in the beginning phase of exploring Six Sigma; you will need a manufacturing and mathematical background to be able to follow along.

No meat to the book. Offers no tools for positive confrontation. First 5 chapters are merely the author recanting obvious situations where you have opportunities for confrontation. But doesn't actually give any solutions. Not very well recorded either. You hear the author breathing and swallowing for the entire length of the book. Save your money, keep looking.
