Historia
The city of Celum is not much like Liscor at all. While Erin is surrounded by familiar, human faces, she’s far from home and without her inn. At the same time, a certain ill-tempered Lyonette is squatting in Erin’s inn, and Goblins are on the move. The Goblin Lord’s threat reaches across the entire region, and the Redfang tribe has rallied against him with the Floodplains tribe, although their Chieftains do not agree on some crucial matters. This winter, there is only snow, Goblins, magic, and iambic pentameter.

entrancing story, but drags at times
Revisado: 01-23-25
Overall the book was excellent.Lots of action, character development and world building. It did thought, at times, drag painfully. Ten minutes of dialog to withdraw one arrow head for example. But the inventiveness keeps me going.

Historia
"No killing Goblins." So reads the sign outside of The Wandering Inn, a small building run by a young woman named Erin Solstice. She serves pasta with sausage, blue fruit juice, and dead acid flies on request. And she comes from another world. Ours. It's a bad day when Erin finds herself transported to a fantastical world and nearly gets eaten by a Dragon. She doesn't belong in a place where monster attacks are a fact of life, and where Humans are one species among many. But she must adapt to her new life. Or die.

Historia
No one wanted another war. Thomas Theisman didn't. Not after risking his life to overthrow the Committee of Public Safety's reign of terror and restore the Republic of Haven's ancient Constitution. Baron High Ridge didn't. The Prime Minister of Manticore was perfectly happy with the war he had. No one was shooting anyone else at the moment, and his government could continue to milk all those "hostilities only" tax measures for their own partisan projects.

Hours of repetitive pedantic politics, a few moments of action. I tried hard to like this series because I love some of the author's other books

A must read, but dragged at times
Revisado: 12-18-24
Sanderson is my favorite author and this series is my favorite of his books. I relistened to the other four volumes and other related books to get ready.
The start of this one was excellent. But the story quickly splintered into multiple separate stories. This allowed the author to work with several characters separately, but the stories did not seem to support a central thread well.
For the first time I have encountered a Sanderson book that I struggled to finish. I found the endings surprisingly predictable. Still, this remains a must read book.

it is a finish, but not something Frank Herbert would have written
Revisado: 11-17-24
great authors always know what not to write and leave to the reader's imagination. These authors however, filled in every needed Gap with nauseating detail and annoying repetition. But, it is a conclusion, does close off every part of the story. If only it didn't leave you wondering what Frank Herbert would have written.

Clearly not a Frank Herbert book, but "in the spirit of Herbert"
Revisado: 11-13-24
From 3 1/2 pages of Frank Herbert notes, the authors built the two large volumes to tie his work to their inventions. Unlike Frank's work, this one is derivative and often annoying repetitive. Still, it does provide a the first of a two volume ending to the main story. Even if it uses the gratuitous rebirth of many old characters.

Did the hand become an idiot
Revisado: 07-01-24
In the previous books I really liked the main character and at the start of the one too, but the he walked, apparently on purpose, into trap after trap. Never choosing to get the right equipment, e.g. an armed ship, backup nearby, ... Oh well. He was still a true self-sacrificing hero. it just annoys me when previously smart characters walk into obvious traps. Still worth listening too.
