Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Brilliantly written, excellently read, and FUN
Revisado: 11-13-21
I've been into science fiction seriously for only about 8 years (~3 books /month when I'm motivated by a series, BV Larson, Jack Cambell, Stephen Moss, Scalzi, Tigner, many others. My first audible purchase was May 2010, average about 3 books/month so not a newbie here. My tastes are relatively broad, occasionally dip into a mystery, detective or spy series (Battles, Hurwitz, Lee Childs, Harry Bosche, Baldacci for example), and Fantasy: Kenneth Grahame, Aleron Kong, with a decent smattering of history, politics, self-help and science fact. Craig Alanson and the Narrators in this series have amazing talent. The narrative in the EXPEDITIONALRY FORCES SERIES (I am currently on book 5 of the series, of 14 total to date I believe) is Smart, Deep, Humorous (lots of great jokes and A.I. banter) and a thoughtful view into an imagined future. I figure a comment here would help someone browsing to be assured that the series is equally amazing. And I also found another series of Alanson's to start. I am looking forward to entering into whatever world is painted and executed there.
Congratulations to those that put together this entire execution of such a brilliant science fiction story, and of course, hail to the mastermind himself, Sir Craig Alanson, a literary life well-played Craig, you discovered your talent, your mind must have been very occupied with this story line, a story in itself that you might tell one day, the writing, thought process and spark of the idea, like closing off a movie series with a director's dialog of the "behind the scenes", and please include some comment from your amazing voice team, they to have discovered their talent.
One day I plan to re-listen to an audible science fiction series or two (I've already done that with a few Reacher novels, far easier to do than a science fiction series investment), perhaps Alanson will join that list, just to see if it stands the test of time, and is near equally enjoyable as the first run through, like looking going back 20 years after the release and re-watching the amazing Hobbit or Lord of the Rings movies (I tried that with Star Wars, it was very hokey (technical term), watched it for the laughs). Those that limit their science fiction to mere movies (in contrast to books, think 15 books at 10 hours each; it is like 75 x 2hr movies in a series) are missing out like someone that quits school at the age of 6 feeling like they've read all of the good books), Jack and Jill comes to mind.

I am a huge fan of B. V. Larson, started with Star Force and moved to Undying Mercenaries and devoured everything there. Lost Colonies is very similar so if you love those series you should love this series.

The Galactics arrived with their Battle Fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spanned the Milky Way. Today, Battle Fleet 921 is returning to Earth. It hasn't been seen by human eyes since our blissful day of Annexation. But what should be a joyful occasion, a chance to grovel at the feet of superior lifeforms, is rapidly becoming a nightmare.

Listen to it again, you will enjoy it just as much
Revisado: 09-20-14
I first listened to this book about two and a half years ago and since I've gone through all of the Jack Reacher books and did not want to wait a year for the next one I decided to listen to this one again, and I loved it just as much, even forgot a few details that kept me engaged. The best kept secret about these books is that you can get as much enjoyment going through the second time. Just like how you can watch a good movie more than once. I am going to be saving a lot of money because now I am going to go through them all again! And the narrator Dick Hill Rocks!

Michael Connelly Delivers
Revisado: 12-19-13
After getting through most of the Harry Bosch series I was looking to see what else Michael Connelly wrote and found the Mickey Haller series and this book. I was not disappointed. Now I have another series to get through and Mickey Haller, with his weaknesses and triumphs, is as just as likeable as Bosch. I also like how Harry Bosch is introduced in this Mickey Haller book. Expect all of the twists and turns and great dialog that you have been accustomed to if you were first a fan of Bosh.Thank you Michael Connelly.

Like many young idealists, Eric Greitens wanted to make a difference. During college and afterward, he traveled to the world's trouble spots, working in refugee camps, serving the sick and the poor on four continents, from Gaza to Croatia to Mother Teresa's home in Calcutta, among others. Yet he could not prevent violence or save anyone from becoming a refugee; he could only step in afterward and try to ease the damage. So Eric joined the Navy SEALs and became an elite warrior....

Incredible and Inspirational Story, Great listen.
Revisado: 12-14-13
I don't often write reviews, but I could not move on to my next listen without adding something here, since I value other's comments in helping me make my decision on what to listen to. This is a great book and a great listen read by the author himself. After listening to a lot of science fiction and spy and detective novels I wanted a break, and this was a good one. You won't be disappointed. The true stories and adventures will inspire you and make you want to be a better person and also give you more respect for those that serve and sacrifice in the military. You will also gain a better understanding of the conflicts around us and the role of the military. One takeaway I want to note here, if you ever have the opportunity to thank a veteran, wounded or not, for their service, also be sure to tell them that we need them in our society now as well.

1st in the series is good, 2nd is even better
Revisado: 08-02-13
I found this series, having gone through several similar genres and looking for something new. This one is even better than the first, containing several intense and captivating action sequences and enough good storytelling and character development to satisfy.
If you enjoy Lee Child's Reacher, Mark Greaney's Gray Man, Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp, Alex Berenson' s John Wells, and many of Baldacci books you will enjoy this series.
Some of main characters can be similar, tall, middle-aged tough guys, ex military or CIA, loners with issues, but if that is what you like, so what, and they are different enough, no one author invented the character type, enjoy.

A great new series has begun
Revisado: 07-04-13
Where does Pushing Ice rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Once you get past a bit of setup, the story captivates and delivers. I have learned to be a bit patient with science fiction novels since they often need to spend time painting a picture of a world and situation so unfamiliar to our current reality. This one really got going and held my attention. I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series.
