Historia
On his last long walk, septuagenarian war hero, deserter, and professor Alessandro Giuliani shares his past with an illiterate young factory worker, spinning a remarkable tale of heart-stopping escapes, of loves unrequited and won, of madmen, dwarfs, and mafiosi. But overshadowing all is his most miraculous and terrible adventure, the Great War: a surreal parade of horrors that devastated and defined Alessandro, yet enabled him to experience fully the magic and beauty of the absurd human comedy called life.

really good
Revisado: 07-22-22
wonderfully narrated and a great story. i learned a lot about European history and culture, was intrigued by the story, and encouraged by the worldview of the main character. His belief in God as the logical conclusion and conviction based upon the beauty of creation and the love that one experiences between family members and between husband and wife. i really appreciated that, as it is my conviction as well. the story is believable and the end, like that of an Italian film or realism novel.

We all love stories. We can't help it. They fill our vision and capture our heart. And these stories all follow familiar patterns: rags to riches, the monster defeated, love lost and then found again. Across the ages, and down through history, these themes have resonated with people.

Wonderfully written, wonderfully narrated, and wonderfully relevant. You will appreciate its brevity and how winsomely the greatest love story is retold.

Historia
We the Fallen People presents a close look at the ideas of human nature to be found in the history of American democratic thought. McKenzie, following C. S. Lewis, claims there are only two reasons to believe in majority rule: because we have confidence in human nature - or because we don't. The Founders subscribed to the biblical principle that humans are fallen and their virtue is always doubtful, and they wrote the US Constitution to frame a republic intended to handle our weaknesses.

What I didn't Know about our Democracy
Revisado: 03-08-22
I highly recommend this book. I will be a wiser American and Christian from what I have learned. I so appreciate the author's research and humble critique of American democracy. Very insightful and very sobering!

Historia
Throughout his distinguished and unconventional career, engineer-turned-molecular-biologist Douglas Axe has been asking the questions that much of the scientific community would rather silence. Now, he presents his conclusions in this brave and pioneering book. Axe argues that the key to understanding our origin is the "design intuition" - the innate belief held by all humans that tasks we would need knowledge to accomplish can be accomplished only by someone who has that knowledge.

Greatful for Axe's bold faith and life's work!

I was ecstatic to find this book, as a paperback, on a shelf in a library in Rome right next to a book by Richard Dawkins. I am grateful for ID and this man's hard work and dedication in the laboratory. This is not material that is easy to put in layman's terms and I appreciated Axe's attempt to do so.
