Historia
As the Germans waged a brutal war across Europe, details of every Nazi plan, every attack, every troop movement were sent over radio. But to the Allied troops listening in―and they were always listening―the crucial messages sounded like gibberish. The communications were encoded with a powerful cipher, making all information utterly inaccessible … unless you could unlock the key to the secret code behind the German’s powerful Enigma machine.

Great overview of the breaking of Enigma
Revisado: 03-20-25
This a great book and is easy to follow. Its main selling point is that it places the historical facts in their proper contexts. The Polish part of this story is by far the most important and interesting. For the last 50 years, we have been told a false story. The Polish cryptoanalysis broke the enigma code 8 years before anyone else. In 1939 right before Poland was invaded, the Polish intelligence service gave the British and the French services a copy of the Enigma machine and the techniques and mathematics used to break Enigma. Six months later the British “independently” broke Enigma, sure, right. When you see a copy of the Polish “Bomba” code-breaking machine, Alan Turing's machine seems far less mysterious. I wish someone would write a book on just the Polish part of breaking Enigma. I don’t think this part of the story has been fully exposed although Ms. Barone gives a good overview in this book.

Historia
The codebreakers at Bletchley Park have been immortalised in films such as The Imitation Game and Enigma, but the Germans were also breaking Allied ciphers. The Third Reich Is Listening is the comprehensive account of the successes, failures and science of Germany's codebreaking and signals intelligence operations from 1935 to 1945. This fast-moving blend of modern history and popular science is told through colourful personal accounts of the Germans at the heart of the story.

Misleading Title
Revisado: 07-17-22
This book is really about England's involvement in WWII. The author goes into great detail about the British navy. What ships are where. How many guns they have etc which is irrelevant to code-breaking. WWII in the European theater was mostly a land war. What this book really is is a book about England during WWII. But if the author released another of the 1000s of British books about England during WWII nobody would buy it. So the author changed the name as a marketing ploy. Skip this book, it is awful. The little the book discusses German code-breaking is really German code-breaking from the British perspective. If you want a book on code-breaking "Enigma" is much better, due out in audio format is 12/2022. I also recommend "Joe Rochefort's War" about the US breaking the Japanese code.

Historia
Homicide detective Bryan Clauser is losing his mind. How else to explain the dreams he keeps having - dreams that mirror, with impossible accuracy, the gruesome serial murders taking place all over San Francisco? How else to explain the feelings these dreams provoke in him - not disgust, not horror, but excitement? As Bryan and his longtime partner, Lawrence 'Pookie' Chang, investigate the murders, they learn that things are even stranger than they at first seem.

Vulgarity on steriods
Revisado: 02-23-15
Would you try another book from Scott Sigler and/or Phil Gigante?
No
Any additional comments?
The vulgarity is overwhelming. Curse words in machine gun, rat-tat-a- tat fashion. I listened for one hour and could tolerate no more of this moronic dialogue.

OK story
Revisado: 02-23-15
Any additional comments?
The crude dialogue is masking the authors weakness in writing 3d characters. I honestly don't know people that speak in this juvenile and vulgar manner. The vulgarity of the characters prevents them from being fully developed. Women are sleazy, men obnoxious. This author can do better. Noir does not mean crude. In many instances the criminals are more refined than the lawyers.

Very bad and annoying. This is an autobiography. I dislike biographies generally and autobiographies specifically and this one is especially annoying because the title is so misleading. If you think you are buying a scientific thesis about time travel as I did you will be very disappointed. What you are getting is a story about a black person who sometimes thinks about time travel. Wow is that interesting. And who even knew that time travel had a racial component.

Historia
Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

Great Audiobook
Revisado: 12-13-05
Michael Connelly has done an excellent job in morphing from a police novelist to a legal novelist. This book is a first rate audiobook – great pace, nice twists and turns. The Lincoln Lawyer is a worthwhile and entertaining audio novel.

Avoid this audiobook
Revisado: 09-21-03
This book is awful. I agree with the other reviews. Imagine a futuristic escapist novel that brings middle-east propoganda into the future. It is the worst of all worlds. Do yourself a favor and avoid this novel.
