Good narration. Good writing. Because there is so much data, it does feel like a text book rather than a page-turner, but well worth it

Good Writing, Implausible Story
Revisado: 10-27-17
The writing was fast-paced and exciting. Characters were relatable and real. Narration was fantastic. However, the nature of this story requires paradox and a ridiculous premise. It's like a time-travel story. Some people love the fantasy aspect if it, but I have a hard time getting past illogical plots.

Historia
In The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, Amy mines her past for stories about her teenage years, her family, relationships, and sex and shares the experiences that have shaped who she is - a woman with the courage to bare her soul to stand up for what she believes in, all while making us laugh. Down to earth and relatable, frank and unapologetic, Amy Schumer is one of us: She relies on her sister for advice, still hangs out with her high school pals, and continues to navigate the ever-changing boundaries in love, work, and life.

Boring, not Funny.
Revisado: 10-18-16
Would you try another book from Amy Schumer and/or Amy Schumer?
No
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Mild disgust
Any additional comments?
I really like Amy's standup and show, but in this book (that she wrote and narrates) she comes off as selfish and with very bad character. The book wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. It made me like her less.

As a follow-up to his 1999 autobiography, Palmer takes stock of the many experiences of his life in A Life Well Played, bringing new details and insights to some familiar stories and sharing new ones. Palmer has had tremendous success but is most notable for going about it the right way and always giving back to the fans who made it all possible. Gracious, fair, and a true gentleman, Arnold Palmer is the gold standard of how to conduct yourself.

Not What I Expected
Revisado: 10-18-16
What would have made A Life Well Played better?
The story and the narration was slow and boring, the opposite of Arnie's golf game.
Any additional comments?
This will sound strange considering Arnie's reputation, but I strongly disliked the book due to it's subtle, but excessive bragging. The book is filled with phrases in which Arnie highlights his great treatment of people all while talking about how humble he is. He also is quite preachy, such as saying all Americans should be required to do a stint in the military. He also goes on about how men shouldn't have facial hair or wear hats in public. I realize that was the code in the 50s, but times have changed. I read nearly every golf book, but this one rubbed me the wrong way, repeatedly. It was very unlike most other golf autobiographies.

Historia
Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Cliched and predictable
Revisado: 07-26-16
Ready Player One is my all time favorite audio book. This was sort of fun, but the story was entirely predictable. The writing seemed hasty, repetitive, and forced. Wheaton's performance was very good again, though.

Historia
Universally acclaimed as a musical genius, Miles Davis was one of the most important and influential musicians in the world. Here, Miles speaks out about his extraordinary life. Miles: The Autobiography, like Miles himself, holds nothing back. For the first time Miles talks about his five-year silence. He speaks frankly and openly about his drug problem and how he overcame it. He condemns the racism he encountered in the music business and in American society generally. And he discusses the women in his life.

Terrible
Revisado: 03-20-12
It's 15 hours of a millionaire drug addict blaming every person he was ever close to for every bad thing that ever happened to him. And he's a huge rascist. I love Miles' music, but wished I'd have skipped this. I liked him a helluva lot better before listening to this.

Historia
As he did so masterfully in his New York Times best seller The Gatekeepers, Jacques Steinberg creates a compelling portrait of people obsessed with reaching a life-defining goal. In this instance, the target is an Ironman triathlon---a 2.4-mile open-water swim followed by a 112-mile bike ride, then finally a 26-mile marathon run, all of which must be completed in no more than seventeen hours. Steinberg focuses not on the professional who live off the prize money and sponsorships, but on a handful of triathletes who regard the sport as a hobby.

Loved this book, keeps me going
Revisado: 10-20-11
Great book about fairly ordinary people of various ages that have jobs, kids, lives, etc. but decide to pursue competing in an Ironman race. This is the best fitness bio I have read to date. It motivates me to keep working out since these people aren't so different than me. Really enjoyed it.

The injuries he sustained pushed him within inches of death. Miraculously, after five months in the hospital and more than 40 operations, Matt was able to start his recovery. This book chronicles Matt's road to recovery as he teaches himself to walk again and, a mere three years later, to run in the 2008 New York City Marathon.

Revisado: 10-20-11
Bought this book for a friend who had a car accident and became a quadriplegic in June. He wanted to hear people's stories who had overcome great obstacles. This book is such as story. I listened to it, and was so motivated I began working out and running. I'm still going strong several weeks later, and I've now picked through all of Audible's fitness bios. Even if you aren't interested in fitness, it's a great read.

I love the story so far, but the audio just stops 90 minutes into part 1. The file continues to play, but no audio!. Parts 2 and 3 seem fine. Been a member since 2004 and never had this before

Historia
Robert Leckie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January 1942, shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In Helmet for My Pillow, we follow his odyssey, from basic training on Parris Island, South Carolina, all the way to the raging battles in the Pacific, where some of the war's fiercest fighting took place. Recounting his service with the 1st Marine Division and the brutal action on Guadalcanal, New Britain, and Peleliu, Leckie spares no detail of the horrors and sacrifices of war.

Very, very good story
Revisado: 03-11-10
I really enjoyed this book. I love US history, and this is very real and very riveting. My only (minor) complaint is that the narrator sounds like a radio announcer the whole time, but that was vastly overshadowed by a great narrative of the Pacific front.
