When I read a regency Christmas, I expect something to indicate that it is Xmas. This could have been any random house party in any random 1800-1900 time period. Disappointing

Not much happened and very little plot, especially for an adventure/quest story. Even the two times something actually happened very pretty flat. Just a lot of talking and navel gazing. The narrator was ok but didn't have much to work with so it was all sort of one note. I actually found my self fast forwarding through a lot of the repetitive self reflection.

I recently have been reworking my way through all the heyers (second time for most of them but first time on audio). It's been super fun listening to them all, one right after another. I was super excited to get to this one, and it did not disappoint. This is definitely one of my very favorites. It has a fantastic cast of characters that stumble from one scrape to another in spectacular fashion. The dialogue is sparkling and hilarious and you just can tell Heyer had at least as much fun. Writing it as I had listening to/reading it. Bc the main characters are young and married and the supporting characters are all young bucks and bloods on the town, you get to see a different side of the ton than many other heyers where the heroines are more circumscribed. Bottom line - if you are a fan of Heyers and regency especially and you haven't listened to this one, put it at the top of you list!
