Glad I stuck around...
Revisado: 09-13-24
The first book was a bit cringy, but it had potential so I decided to read the next one before ditching the series altogether. This one was amazingly written and didn't drone on endlessly with tedious bullshit like the first one did. I'm hoping the others will be equally enjoyable as this one was for me. There still wasn't a huge "shifter"presence in this one either, but hopefully we'll get to see what a land full of Panthers would look like in the future. I'm glad they're picking up the next one with Eliana, tho I'm a bit disappointed to see how gullible she was at the end of this book. Girl really didn't give her mans a chance to explain himself, just assumed everything..... how annoying.

Historia
Leander McLoughlin is leader of the Ikati, an ancient tribe of beautiful, savage shape-shifters who live hidden in the forests of England. Their survival is rooted in secrecy, a secrecy threatened by the very existence of one raised outside the tribe. Charged with capturing her before she can expose their secret, Leander tracks the unsuspecting outsider to Southern California. The great warrior is prepared for a fight — but not for the effect the courageous young beauty has on his heart.

Ya know,
Revisado: 09-12-24
Sometimes I just can't... How're you gonna write a story about a clan of werepanthers, all gathered together with nary a human in sight, and not have ANY of them walking around as a cat? I thought you said it was their "true form", yet they only parade around as humans, even in the compound?! Even the two MC's pal around in vapor form more often than their true panther form, like wtf? And why vapor? I thought this was about Panthers, no? Many times the author would forget what they previously wrote and mix up details, like its a heavy thunderstorm with lightning, they're in the woods, yet the sun is shining down on her face, only to then add the comment that the forest is still dark and gloomy bc of the rain, but she's bathed in sunlight? Or like how, after FINALLY turning into a panther, she climbs up a tree to look around, jumps down to see dude on the forest floor, they nuzzle faces, turn into humans and are somehow still in the tree and are having relations way up in the branches. What? There were many examples of contradictions like this, but I digress. The whole enemies to lovers thing was so confusing and felt forced, like girl why are you so mad at him all the time, ya just sound stupid. The guy starts out real strong, only to slowly devolve into some twitterpated cuckquean beta rather than the manly alpha we're constantly reminded he is. He starts throwing around the L word and hinting at a marriage proposal less than a week of knowing this broad. All the other characters are just thrown in there to break up the monotony of their fighting and fawning, and really don't add much substance to it, tho they still show so much more likability and commonsense than our two MC's. As per EVERY enemies to lovers book script ever, it sticks to the classic "I'm going to be a dick to him until we reach the 80% mark" checklist. The last 20mins of the book were completely unnecessary, and honestly could've ended after the whole "my queen" bit, but maybe some people like that shit? Idk, not me, it was a waste of time. I guess it was thrown in there just to make up for all the awkward cold shoulders we had to witness throughout most of the book? Ugh, Idk. This book had so much wasted potential, and even tho I'm complaining alot, it wasn't THAT bad, just don't get me started on the narration, smh. Anyway, I just hope the author pays more attention to the details next time and lays off of that tired enemies trope. There's better ways to engage your audience than forcing them to read petty, unflattering arguments for chapters on end. I'll read the next book, but if it sucks I'll just move on to something else. Life's too short to waste it reading bad books.

Welcome to the end of the world. One minute, people are going about their lives, and the next—not. In the wake of the inexplicable purge, only a handful of young misfits remains. When it all went down, “Wizard of Odd” Dev Brinkman was seeking shelter from the taunts of his classmates. Goth girl Lucy Abernathy had lost her best friend and had no clue where to turn. And Twinkie-loving quarterback “Marcus” Haddad was learning why you never discuss politics and religion in polite company—or online.

Lucy is the worst.
Revisado: 09-07-24
I could tolerate the obvious wokeism peppered throughout the story, the horrible performance from the narrator, who'd switch between east coast and southern accents like they're somehow "the same", and even the excessive amounts of pauses written during conversations. But what I couldn't stand was Lucy's character. Her aggressive and selfish nature, the hypocrisy of wanting and essentially getting an abortion she apparently "needed", only then after to literally be forcing a kid she just met weeks later to sire a child with her, whether he wanted to or not, then using that forced pregnancy as a weapon to act like an insufferable bitch was all a bit too much. The threats of violence doled out if she wasn't catered to, the assumption that since she was a female she was always right and the poor men who had to deal with it all, or else. Lucy is just the worst kind of female character, and it's somehow made worse by her being described as a fat and ugly, angry goth chick, like apparently those are the only types of goth chicks to ever exist, and so somehow her actions are all justifiably ok. 🙄 Ugh. Everything in this story is just so fucking cliché I just can't even...
For what it was, the story was ok. I just wish the time allocated to certain events and things were divided up properly. It took 75% of the book just to have the 3 kids meet, and once they did, the rest of the plot points blew past so quickly and were glossed over like it's no big deal. I'm still left with many questions and only a little closure, if you could even call it that. I've def read much worse, but this could've been so much better if the author had a little help and better feedback.

Decent read
Revisado: 08-28-24
I LOVE that this takes place in the Burgh, so awesome to see my neighborhood depicted. The story was cool, narration on point, tho they shoulda used someone with a yinzer accent to make it better, we don't talk like that here. The plot was ok, tho it didn't quite ring the same as the lil girl we met in baby teeth. Great book, but just like baby teeth, the ending was very lacking, like there really wasn't a real resolution. Idk... still a fun read.

That voice!
Revisado: 08-15-24
I love when stories switch up the voices, esp when it's a different, disembodied voice, like the boy's. This was my favorite book out of the whole series. It could've been a single book, but I'm fine with the way it was sectioned up. Quick read, I finished this whole series in a single night. Loved it, can't wait to read more like this. 💙

Best book of the series.
Revisado: 07-19-24
Fredric was by far my favorite character here. I loved his unapologetic nature and foul mouth. ( A man after my own heart 💙) The jumping around of the story was a bit frustrating, as it made it hard to follow at times. The Rodrigo plot ending left much to be desired, even tho they set it up to have an amazing arch. Honestly, if it wasn't for Frederick and Yasper, I'd give this story a much lesser score. Still a good book to read.

Not loving the voice here.
Revisado: 06-16-24
Good book but I thought the voice actress wasn't a great fit for the theme of the book. She spoke too proper of English for me to fully get into it like I normally do. She does great work, I've listened to her many times before. I just thought they should've chosen a more accented actress for a viking theme.

Are we in L.A or fucking Georgia?!
Revisado: 08-26-23
I like this narrator and normally don't mind listening to her other works, however the voices drove me fucking nuts in this story. Normally, I don't fixate too much on this type of thing or can atleast overlook it, but for some reason it REALLY bugged me how everyone had a southern drawl, even tho this story's setting takes place in L.A.! I can tolerate Nico having one, and even his brother given their backgrounds, BUT all the other characters too?! Esp the dom girl Kat bitch slapped?! Bro.. Fucking c'mon now! We're in Cali, not Dixie.. It just made me HATE listening to this so much. I already felt some type of way bc of the heavy storyline making me want to slit my wrists for being overly depressing, considering this is supposed to be a mushy romance, but the voices... ahh, the fucking voices.. make it stop! Ugh, it was just really a struggle for me. The story was just ok, there were only a few times where it made me laugh or caught me in the feels, but for the most part it was just kinda filled with those cheesy cliché overly used narratives here. Nothing new or noteworthy to read, no panty soaking scenes or chest clutching breathless moments to catch you off guard or punch you in the face. Just a mediocre story with a mediocre plot. Took forever for me to even read thru it cuz it just couldn't keep my interest for long; always found myself pausing it to do other more interesting things. Just overall so so. If the voices were more better suited would I have liked it better? Probably not. It's just ok. Nothing profound here. If you can't read it for free then don't bother wasting a credit on this, you'll likely be dissatisfied wasting your hard earned money on this read. There's plenty of other stories out there that're well worth it. Doubt I'll continue with this series, it's just not my cup of tea. Or in Kat's case, Patron silver. You'll need plenty of it to get thru this book...

Where's the rest of it?
Revisado: 05-23-23
How are you going to censor a story so much that you cut out the literal ending plot for the whole book?! What was so bad about this story in the first place that you felt the need to abridge and remove things from it to the point where it makes no actual sense anymore? I get that it might be a bit hard for some to follow all the story layers, esp if you're not paying attention, but to remove the whole ending and the entire reasoning for the book's existence is just ridiculous to me! I waited so patiently to get to the end to find out what really happened to the sultan's wife and her sister after she told all of these clever stories to the sultan, but when I got there, there was nothing... it just ended. It's such bullshit. I'm getting so tired of today's censorship and political correctness and their need to abridge everything. Can't we just quietly read our stories in peace and decide for ourselves if it's any good or not? Why do you INSIST on doing it for us?! smh...
