Historia
Don't think John Pinette is funny just because he's fat and is always talking about food. What's wrong with you? Don't you eat? Even if you don't tip the scale, you'll be able to find common ground with his hysterical routines that have landed him appearances on such important stages as
Caroline's Comedy Hour,
Showtime's Comedy All Stars, and
An Evening at the Improv. Or perhaps you already know Pinette as the "fat mugging victim" on the last episode of
Seinfeld.

Absolutely Hysterical
Revisado: 12-02-03
My partner and I listen to this on every road trip we take. We missed seeing him live recently and are kicking ourselves. John Pinnette is a riot!

A Fun Summer Listen
Revisado: 12-02-03
"Utopia" - abridged - was a fun listen during the summer while working in my yard. So its somewhat fluffy, it is still better than any recent James Patterson work. However, I'm annoyed to see there is now an unabridged version available on audible with 14 additonal hours - I tend to go unabridged, but the story sounded good and there being no other option at the time... Eric Stolz did a fine job narrating; however, there is a different narrator for the unabridged and I'm half tempted to get the unabridged version to see how different the stories are.

Diary takes the form of a "coma diary" kept by one Misty Tracy Wilmot as her husband lies senseless in a hospital after a suicide attempt. It is a dark, hilarious, and poignant act of storytelling from America's favorite, most inventive nihilist.

What a trip!
Revisado: 12-02-03
While I must admit that I liked Chuck Palahniuk's "Lullaby" more, I was really drawn into this story - especially by Martha Plimpton's wonderful narration. I simply had to know what the heck was at the root of all the chaos. When all was revealed, I was fairly satisfied. Chuck Palahniuk is clearly one of the most creative (if not twisted) minds of my generation and I look forward to his next novel with great anticipation.

Historia
Daniel Pecan Cambridge, 30, 35, 38 or 27, depending on how he feels that day, is a young man whose life is rich and full, provided he never leaves his Santa Monica apartment. After all, outside there are 8-inch-high curbs and there's always the horrible chance he might see a gas station attendant wearing a blue hat. So, except for the occasional trip to the Rite Aid to admire the California girl Zandy and to buy earplugs because they're on sale, he stays home a lot. And good thing, too.

Hard to recommend
Revisado: 12-02-03
I really wanted to like this story, and as another reviewer says, the only redeeming element is the author's narration. Steve Martin is a comedic genious; however, the longer I listened, the more I began to realize there would be no "pay-off" at the end of nearly 5 hours. I bought this as a break from my usual mystery/thrillers. Oh well. It's not the worst audible book I've purchased, but extremely far from the best.

Infinitely better than recent Alex Cross stories
Revisado: 12-21-02
I like Alex Cross. I loved the earlier stories, but after Roses are Red, I swore I would never, ever read another James Patterson book. It's an addiction. I read Violets are Blue, a slight redemption, but I was still borderline. Beach House was adequate, and the new series, 1st to Die and 2nd Chance were an interesting change. Four Blind Mice is a good book, ill-timed storyline, but such is life. I find myself looking forward to some more enjoyable quick reads/listens from Patterson (what is it, every six months?)....

Stephen King's first full-length solo novel since Dreamcatcher, the long-awaited From a Buick 8 is "nearly flawless and one terrific entertainment," says Publishers Weekly. A strange car acts as a conduit between our world and some other...and the boogeyman of this creepy story is our collective fascination with deadly things.

Dreadfully boring...
Revisado: 12-21-02
Having recently listened to and thoroughly enjoyed The Talisman (Unabridged), Dreamcatcher (Unabridged), and Everything's Eventual (Unabridged), I was really excited for this Audible book. I've always thought Bruce Davison is a great actor (and he is) but, after an hour of his droning (and after starting the book over six times), I've given up! I'm fairly tenacious, but I've relegated this to the archives for the next time I'm bedridden and without any form of entertainment...
