Historia
Spearpoint, the last human city, is an atmosphere-piercing spire of vast size. Clinging to its skin are the zones, a series of semi-autonomous city-states, each of which enjoys a different---and rigidly enforced---level of technology. Following an infiltration mission that went tragically wrong, Quillon has been living incognito, working as a pathologist in the district morgue.

Historia
Author Jon Clinch makes his debut with this extraordinary novel that tackles issues of race, slavery, and paternity while delivering a fully fleshed rendering of one of the most notorious characters in the history of American literature: Huckleberry Finn's father. It was more than a century ago that Mark Twain left the notoriously violent Finn dead, surrounded by such oddities as a wooden leg and women's undergarments. As we get to know this troubled man, we meet the people who shape Finn's life.

Sounds all too real
Revisado: 07-19-10
It is a violent book and Finn is a monster. But the book reads like real life in a time when life was cheap and injustice was common place. You cannot really look at Finn through the prism of modern life or "enlightened" sensibilities. I think it was this kind of monster that Twain wanted expose to the public to show it for what it was.

Historia
They first appear as a series of dots on astronomical plates, heading from Saturn directly toward Earth. Since the ringed planet carries no life, scientists deduce the mysterious ship to be a visitor from another star. The world's frantic efforts to signal the aliens go unanswered. The first contact is hostile: the invaders blast a Soviet space station, seize the survivors, and then destroy every dam and installation on Earth with a hail of asteriods.

The woman is Cheri-Anne Toledo, a beautiful mathematical prodigy whose memories appear to come from another world.

Written as if coming from another time
Revisado: 03-05-10
I really enjoyed this book. The jumps from present time to reminiscing about his past took getting used to, but when you realize its an old man telling the story of his past, it is easy to understand. It moved well and the characters were people you could empathize with.
Speculative fiction, classic romance, historical novel. Its got it all and Todd McLaren could make a laundry list sound good.

who picks the reader?
Revisado: 07-04-09
I couldn't finish the book. I wouldn't have downloaded the book if I had heard the reader do a female voice first. he just breaks into a falsetto that sounds silly. I stopped before I heard him do Honor with that voice.
what a waste

Orson Scott Card Understands
Revisado: 07-08-03
There is something that most educators do not understand and that is how a gifted child's mind works. Mr. Card does. Many gifted children have read this book and agree. My own gifted child read it when he was ten and feels like he knows Ender. He identifies with Ender like no other fictional character.
