Historia
James Comey might best be known as the FBI director that Donald Trump fired in 2017, but he’s had a long, varied career in the law and justice system. He knows better than most just what a force for good the US justice system can be - and how far afield it has strayed during the Trump presidency. In his much-anticipated follow-up to A Higher Loyalty, Comey uses anecdotes and lessons from his career to show how the federal justice system works.

James Comey is a good storyteller but....
Revisado: 01-17-21
Comey’s second book was interesting except for when he rehashed the Hillary Clinton email episode. He already covered it in great detail in his first book. Heck, I didn’t completely buy his excuses then, and even with a few more flourishes, I’m not buying it now. I only wish he left that section out. Nevertheless, I was fascinated by his true life stories.

Iconic Dan Rather speaks
Revisado: 08-07-20
I totally enjoyed this romp through Dan Rather’s amazing life. He takes you from his working class roots and his breakthrough coverage of hurricane Carla all the way to the civil rights movement and the assassination of President Kennedy. He describes exactly how he honed his skills and earned his credentials as a tough journalist. Without missing a beat he has no problem laughing at himself and willingly shares his amusing “ratherisms.”
Don’t miss this. It’s a real treat.

Historia
Marking a significant departure from Noah Cicero's fictional and poetic works, Blood-Soaked Buddha/Hard Earth Pascal is a lucid philosophical treatise. Rather than entertain dogma, Cicero approaches a discussion of Buddhism from the refreshing perspective of the everyman, providing a profound spiritual analysis as well as a sharp critique of capitalism. There are even some pretty good ghost stories.

Gutsy. A simple book on the Buddhist idea for all of us. You don’t need to be an intellectual to understand it......only a yearning to be a better human being. It is well worth your time.

Historia
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

A Great Escape
Revisado: 11-13-17
This is the first time I have listened to an Audible Drama Original. Wow. I thourougly enjoyed the feeling of witnessing the action in person. The experience is different than just listening and imagining a story unfold. I felt myself become a silent comrade in the space craft. Definitely surprising for a person who rarely listens or reads anything in the horror Sci-Fi genre.
It''s a frightening story dealing with parasitic aliens and rouge AI. I found myself so wrapped up in the story that I often caught myself sitting on the edge of my seat only to wait for the next shoe to drop. And it does, again and again.
It's not long so you need not invest a lot of listening time, but it is worth the listening journey even if only to appreciate the wonderful cast of characters and sound effects.

Fast Food Genocide
Revisado: 11-09-17
I've read most of Dr Furman's previous books on health and diet so I was already very familiar with his health recommendations before reading this book (easily maintaining a healthy weight by eating in the manner he prescribes despite being in my late 50s). I did enjoy this particular book because I found it offered an interesting twist adding stories of past nutritional deficiency outbreaks and the lessons we've gleaned from them. Mind you, there were times the book did have the feeling of being a bit over the top tending to exaggerate some links between diet and history. Nevertheless, as long as you remember that correlation does not necessarily indicate causation, I think I'm safe in saying you still might be able to appreciate much of the nutritional wisdom offered.
Don't expect the food plan to be different from his other books. And do note, you will also find many familiar recipes. That may be troublesome to some, but it really didn't bother me. Again, the real downside was the smattering of extreme rhetoric that could be construed as a bit over the top.

Historia
On September 2, 2013, at the age of 64, Diana Nyad emerged onto the sands of Key West after swimming 111 miles, nation to nation, Cuba to Florida, in an epic feat of both endurance and human will, in 53 hours. Diana carried three poignant messages on her way across this stretch of shark-infested waters, and she spoke them to the crowd in her moment of final triumph.

Diana's persistence against all odds is motivational. She unflinchingly examines her life and motivations. She is unapologetic (and rightly so) about her life and easily expresses herself and her refreshingly upbeat view of the world. That isn't to say she isn't reflective. She is a humanist and yet, deeply understands the religious point of view. She reminds us that it really isn't the goal that's important, it's the journey. And we never make that journey alone. Lovely book.

Historia
For the first time, Hillary Rodham Clinton reveals what she was thinking and feeling during one of the most controversial and unpredictable presidential elections in history. Now free from the constraints of running, Hillary takes you inside the intense personal experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election marked by rage, sexism, exhilarating highs and infuriating lows, stranger-than-fiction twists, Russian interference, and an opponent who broke all the rules. This is her most personal memoir yet.

Honest, reflective and moving book on what Hillary believed happened. I can't say her perceptions about the election were incorrect or I that I hadn't often thought along the same lines. There was really nothing new to me in that respect. What I did find interesting was her manner of living and coping after the loss. She picked herself up, brushed herself off and continued on. Indeed, very admirable.

Historia
Al Franken, Giant of the Senate is a book about an unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect. It's a book about what happens when the nation's foremost progressive satirist gets a chance to serve in the United States Senate and, defying the low expectations of the pundit class, actually turns out to be good at it.

Any additional comments?
I very rarely write reviews, but people need to know Franken's book is worth their listening time. Franken is smart, thoughtful, amusing and gut wretchingly honest. His chapter on Ted Cruz had me giddy with laughter. It's about time someone put that useless blood sucking Cruz cartoon character in his place. Bravo!

Any additional comments?
"Five Days at Memorial" is balanced, thought provoking and unexpectedly shocking. I still wonder "what would I have done" under the same horrific circumstances. Was the outcome just? Was truth and justice really served? Why wasn't the situation different? I'm still haunted.
It's an excellent piece of investigative journalism.
