Historia
Inside this bundle, you’ll find three stories which established Edith Wharton as a literary legend. Originally written over a hundred years ago, these stories have stood the test of time to resonate in the hearts of people to this very day. Reflecting the life of the upper-class aristocrats and socialites, The House of Mirth and The Age of Innocence offer tragic tales, while Ethan Frome tells a story in a small wintery town of Massachusetts.

Loved the first 2 titles, not so much Ethan Frome
Revisado: 07-02-22
I love Edith Wharton and The Age of Innocence and The House of Mirth didn't dissapoint. I found the mispronunciation of virtually all expressions in French most grating.

Historia
Thumbing across the scorched West Texas desert, loner Jack Reacher has nowhere to go and all the time in the world to get there. Cruising the same stretch of two-lane blacktop is pretty Carmen Greer. But for Reacher, the lift comes with a hitch. Carmen's got a story to tell, and it's a wild one. All about her husband, her family secrets, and a hometown that's pure Gothic. She's also got a plan. Jack Reacher's part of it. And before the sun sets, this ride could cost them both their lives.

Historia
Philip Carey, a sensitive orphan born with a clubfoot, finds himself in desperate need of passion and inspiration. He abandons his studies to travel, first to Heidelberg and then to Paris, where he nurses ambitions of becoming a great artist. Philip's youthful idealism erodes, however, as he comes face-to-face with his own mediocrity and lack of impact on the world. After returning to London to study medicine, he becomes wildly infatuated with Mildred, a vulgar, tawdry waitress, and begins a doomed love affair.

Historia
In 1532, the 54-year-old Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro led a force of 167 men, including his four brothers, to the shores of Peru. Unbeknownst to the Spaniards, the Inca rulers of Peru had just fought a bloody civil war in which the emperor Atahualpa had defeated his brother, Huascar. Pizarro and his men soon clashed with Atahualpa and a huge force of Inca warriors at the Battle of Cajamarca.

Great story poorly narrated
Revisado: 10-28-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Great narrative of the conquest of Peru by a band of Spanish adventurers. Unfortunately, the narrator had no clue of Spanish name pronunciations, with the consequence that he butchered a great number of names. Jarring to a fluent Spanish speaker.
Would you be willing to try another one of Norman Dietz’s performances?
Not if it involves foreign names.
Any additional comments?
The last part about ruin discoveries was not necessary. Naked attempt by the author to rope in the Machu Picchu visitor crowd.

Historia

Revisado: 07-29-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Has El último Catón turned you off from other books in this genre?
Definitivamente my debut y despedida con Matilde Asensi y con Eva Andres.
What didn’t you like about Eva Andres’s performance?
Todo. Su timbre de voz, el tono plañidero, y el ritmo de lectura que parece de maestra de primaria del siglo pasado.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from El último Catón?
¿Donde comenzar?

Historia
In Washington: A Life celebrated biographer Ron Chernow provides a richly nuanced portrait of the father of our nation. This crisply paced narrative carries the reader through his troubled boyhood, his precocious feats in the French and Indian War, his creation of Mount Vernon, his heroic exploits with the Continental Army, his presiding over the Constitutional Convention, and his magnificent performance as America's first president.

Mr. Brick's narration is annoying
Revisado: 03-17-16
What made the experience of listening to Washington: A Life the most enjoyable?
Chernow's narrative is great, although many times the story gets lost in the minutiae of Washington's comings and goings and detailed descriptions of the management of his estate.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Scott Brick?
Not sure who to recommend instead of Mr. Brick's exceedingly pompous and affected narration.
