In Deep Hole, one of the world’s foremost crime novelists crafts a sweet, poignant romance novella that could only come from his perfectly calibrated sense of time and place. It incorporates fights and misunderstandings and rejection, and is set against the backdrop of a quiet surfing town in Rhode Island where everyone knows each other’s business—and pleasure.

Fall in Love with Life Again
Revisado: 07-01-17
Anne's imagination, unquenchable thirst for life and love of nature are like a cool, refreshing drink on a scorching day. This book gave me much needed break from the hopelessness, horror and despair of the daily headlines. Listening to it made me want to fall in love with life again. Rachel McAdams' heartfelt narration adds much to the experience.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Thousands of Readers Can't Be Wrong. They Weren't
Revisado: 09-18-14
What made the experience of listening to 14 the most enjoyable?
Great writing. Porter's rich and varied narration is tops.
What other book might you compare 14 to and why?
I wish I knew of other books to compare to "14". I hope to find more!
What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Aside from the wonderful way he has of individuating the characters, Porter's performance allows the listener to experience the rhythm and cadence of the writing. I write and teach creative writing, so it's icing on the cake, to learn craft from the performance.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I need to think about that. There are so many directions you could go with this.
Any additional comments?
Clines pulls off a rarity - one heck of a read with very little (if any) of the graphic stuff that's become the hallmark of our culture. Likeable characters, great dialogue, a well paced story, and no zombies or vampires! What's NOT to love??
I'm comfortable giving this to a grandmother or a high schooler. How many books can you say that about?
I hope to read more like this. : )

Hidden Gem
Revisado: 07-30-14
Would you listen to Herland again? Why?
Yes. It's not overly long. Really enjoyed the narrator and the story.
What did you like best about this story?
The strange story - three guys in a biplane in an undiscovered utopia of women. I enjoyed imagining the characters and the scenes. The story was a little escape (in the midst of my daily activities), to a mysterious, somewhat magical place. I found myself wanting to return there, again and again.
Have you listened to any of William Dufris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I'm new to Dufris, but I liked him so much that I sought out (and purchased) another one of his narrations. He really animates the characters with his voice. I got a good mental picture of the world of "Herland" through Dufris' narration.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I loved the way Jeff held the women, all women, in such high esteem. Terry was a big, blustery sourpuss of machismo. Haven't we all known a "Terry"? I found myself just shaking my head over some of his comments. You knew he was going to fall and fall hard. And he did.
Any additional comments?
"Herland" was required reading for a class I took, otherwise, I never would have known about it. Feel like I discovered a gem. I knew "The Yellow Wallpaper", but "Herland" was a real treat. It brought me back to when my own four kids were young and needed mothering. Those were pretty crazy, intense years, but "Herland" actually made me miss them, and those four little munchkins who are now very grown up adults.

Wish I'd discovered Mrs. Pollifax Years Ago!
Revisado: 03-16-14
What made the experience of listening to The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax the most enjoyable?
Rosenblatt does an exceptional job with the voice characterizations.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax?
Every moment with Mrs. P. was enjoyable. I loved how she endured with a noble spirit and lack of self pity and whining. She was the least experienced character in the book, yet, in some ways, the strongest in heart, mind and spirit.
Which scene was your favorite?
The scenes on which she took care of and interacted with Farrell.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
If Mrs. P felt despair, I felt it, too.
Any additional comments?
I'm thrilled there are several more books in this series. I will read them ALL!!

Historia
The Great Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon out of his life as a San Francisco Web-design drone - and serendipity, sheer curiosity, and the ability to climb a ladder like a monkey has landed him a new gig working the night shift at Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. But after just a few days on the job, Clay begins to realize that this store is even more curious than the name suggests. There are only a few customers, but they come in repeatedly and never seem to actually buy anything....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend it to my tech friends, those guys who love writing code and studying Google algorithms. Fantasy and mystery lovers might want to try something else.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The most interesting part of the story was the mystery of the old books; ancient, leather bound, encoded tomes lining the topmost shelves of the store and accessible to a few, eccentric patrons.
Which character – as performed by Ari Fliakos – was your favorite?
Clay, as a millennial, has a nerdy, friendly personality. Mr. Penumbra has a great, erudite, accented voice. Fliakos is a good narrator.
Who was the most memorable character of Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore and why?
Mr. Penumbra was the most memorable character. I met him in the excellent "Ajax Penumbra 1969". It was fun to catch up with him all these years later.
Any additional comments?
Don't miss Audible's rendition of the prequel to this book, "Ajax Penumbra 1969".

This is the story of mankind clawing for survival, of mankind on the edge. The world outside has grown unkind, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they profess to want: They are allowed outside.

A New Take on Post Apocalyptic
Revisado: 03-04-14
Where does Wool Omnibus Edition (Wool 1 - 5) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Wool ranks with my favorite audiobooks.
What did you like best about this story?
One of my favorite things about the story was the creepy, claustrophobic confines of the silo. Holsten's story hooked me at the beginning. Juliette's carried me through the next 2/3 of the book. Her character was the perfect combination of tough and tender.
What about Minnie Goode’s performance did you like?
She did a great job differentiating the voices.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes!
Any additional comments?
I've ordered Dust, another book in the Silo series, and look forward to listening. Hugh Howey is one of my favorite authors. Thank you for bringing his work to Audible!

Historia
Young Ajax Penumbra has not arrived in San Francisco looking for free love or a glimpse of the technological future. He is seeking a book: the single surviving copy of the Techne Tycheon, a mysterious volume that has brought and lost great fortune for anyone who has owned it. The last record of the book locates it in the San Francisco of more than a century earlier, and on that scant bit of evidence, Penumbra's university has dispatched him west to acquire it for their library.

Revisado: 02-08-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'd recommend this to anyone who loves books because it is, among other things, about a mysterious book and the journey to track it down.
What did you like best about this story?
This story has some of my favorite elements; a map, a mystery, quirky and likeable characters, an alluring old bookstore, a friendship, and the fun setting of San Francisco in the late 60's.
What does Ari Fliakos bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Ari Fliakos' lively characterizations make for an enjoyable and entertaining listen.
If you could take any character from Ajax Penumbra 1969 out to dinner, who would it be and why?
I would take Ajax out to dinner to find out why he's so interested in a certain book.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this so much, I ordered the audio novel, "Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore". Can't wait to listen.
