Historia
In a remote corner of the world, forgotten for nearly 3,000 years, lived an enclave of Kurdish Jews so isolated that they still spoke Aramaic, the language of Jesus. Mostly illiterate, they were self-made mystics and gifted storytellers and humble peddlers who dwelt in harmony with their Muslim and Christian neighbors in the mountains of northern Iraq. To these descendants of the Lost Tribes of Israel, Yona Sabar was born.

Great story, poorly narrated
Revisado: 09-10-24
Roughly every other Hebrew word is mispronounced (SHAB-bat, Ephra-IM) which is a shame. All the more so because this is a book about, among other things, language (Aramaic).

Historia
Fleeing East from Nazi terror, over a million Polish Jews traversed the Soviet Union, many finding refuge in Muslim lands. Their story - the extraordinary saga of two thirds of Polish Jewish survivors - has never been fully told. Author Mikhal Dekel's father, Hannan Teitel, and her aunt Regina were two of these refugees. After they fled the town in eastern Poland where their family had been successful brewers for centuries, they endured extreme suffering in the Soviet forced labor camps known as "special settlements".

A treasure
Revisado: 06-20-22
Remarkable. Every paragraph offers a wealth of fascinating storytelling and history. This has helped me piece together my own family history far better than any previous book. I had to listen to the whole work twice to really take it in. And the reader is astonishingly good, handling every language with accuracy and grace. A gem.

Historia
The Prime Ministers is the first and only insider account of Israeli politics from the founding of the Jewish State to the near-present day. It reveals stunning details of life-and-death decision-making, top-secret military operations and high level peace negotiations. The Prime Ministers brings listeners into the orbits of world figures, including Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Rabin, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Henry Kissinger, Yasser Arafat, Margaret Thatcher, Princess Diana and the Lubavitcher Rebbe.

Fascinating story, beautifully read
Revisado: 09-05-16
Derek Perkins, the reader, even manages to pronounce most (though not all) of the Hebrew words right...
