My new favorite author!
Revisado: 04-10-25
The narrator was a 10/10. The story was too! It was bizarre in a good way, and it kept me guessing. I got so wrapped up at a point near the end that I was shouting directions to characters in my empty bedroom. I liked this so much, I went and purchased two more books by this author. I hope they are as good as this one!

Historia
For some it’s an opportunity. For others it’s a moment to question their faith: In God, in science, in everything. Still others try to keep the world running in the face of absurdity and uncertainty. And then there are the billions looking to the sky and wondering how a thing that was always just there is now... something absolutely impossible.

What would happen to society if the moon was suddenly made of cheese?
Revisado: 04-03-25
Will Wheaton did a great job narrating, as always. He has narrated so many of John Scalzi’s books that he has kind of become the official narrator!
This story took an old saying about a moon made of cheese and ran with it. It was humorous but also managed to tackle a lot of essential crisis at the same time. One of my favorite things about Scalzi is his ability to incorporate the bizarre into his stories, and yet at the same time make his characters relatable.
If you liked this, you should check out Starter Villain, Old Man’s War, and Fuzzy Nation!

A little bit of batsh@t, a whole lot of fun.
Revisado: 03-25-24
This book is a fun collection of the history of weird stuff that people believed in and "still achieved great things". This book was a great way to laugh and learn about the absurd at the same time. I will definitely be listening to more by this author!

Fasten your falx knives and grab the reins of your quadriga: Rivals 2! More Frenemies Who Changed the World is the funniest look at people who benefited the world through their hatred. This audiobook has it all: death beams, chariot races, flaming costumes, ear-munchers, party fleas, and whatever the opposite of epic poetry is.... No fact is too bizarre, no segue too surreal, and no sequitur is too non for this riotous sequel.

A Story of First Contact
Revisado: 01-25-23
This was a dramatization by multiple narrators. The narration was well done, it felt like listening in on a conversation.
In the story, a bunch of scientists are called together to investigate a possible first contact with aliens. I don’t want to say too much and spoil the story, but it was an enjoyable and thought provoking listen. One thing in the story that made me think was when a character (one of the scientists) was talking about different possibilities of ways life could develop on other planets and how difficult communication might turn out to be if we ever did find each other. Another thought provoking moment was when a scientist said they’d never send a signal out into space because the receiver of the signal might not be friendly.

Historia
“The Heron” is the nickname a big-city accountant has attached to himself in his new home near San Diego, where he’s using the alias to avoid a hit man who may be after him. It seems a former client believes that The Heron has skipped town with several million dollars not his own. Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.
