Those some of the terminology is a little bit dated (we call it ADHD now), it is a fascinating and insightful look into the ADHD mind, something I actually like is that they give you overviews of the various forms of ADHD explained through case studies in Laymans terms, and really only dig into the bio chemistry near the end. It makes the text far more accessible, preserving the ability to focus throughout the whole book.

As someone who did not get a lot of experience with developing boundaries as a kid, this book is full of good means to identify boundary violations as an adult. It has particularly good information on parent-child dynamics, work boundaries, and wife healthy restraint looks like in the digital age.

I have learned a lot about our favorite drug. It was fascinating to learn about the origin of coffee brewing, and seeing just how insidious its reach is.

This book is a fascinating dive into pop science and science-fiction technology. The author does a great job at simplifying complex concepts.

This book is an excellent primer on the power of VR. While there are times the author’s political biases shine through, they are dwarfed in comparison to the large amount of information on VR’s development and potential uses.

NDT takes readers on a fun trip through the cosmos, making many large-scale concepts more accessible to the non-astrophysicist.

That being said, the cosmically insignificant NDT seems to take a lot of pleasure at reminding the reader that they are, in fact, cosmically insignificant. In and of itself, I wouldn’t care, but a lot of these read like putdowns. He also has a rant in which he rails against people citing common sense “facts” which are wrong…but does much the same with his underhanded comments on the Church and its role in the development of astronomy.

Graham’s reading is excellent.

Thoreau’s writing (especially for the first 3/4 of Walden) is to be politely described as self-indulgent, and aptly described as similar to that which people do on their own behind closed doors.

Containing little of substance beyond boring, truncated recollections of his two years living in the woods, Thoreau’s actual philosophy doesn’t even begin to come to the fore until the last 1/4. This is where his actual poetic voice finally begins to come forth, but it’s too little too late. Civil Disobedience is more engaging, containing a better thought-out philosophical ground and more gripping examinations of the nature of his life in Concord, MA.

Robin Field’s narration is dry; understandable given the subject material with which he was working. I give him credit for conveying some of the wistful idleness Thoreau championed, but a bit more engagement would have helped the slog of the writing.

With down to earth and straightforward language, this book really is a book for the dudes. With the exception of a couple out-of-touch remarks about millennials, all the content was useful.

The female narrator had a bit too much dramatic flair, almost like she was trying to sell the advice. For something so down to earth it felt out of place BUT it did stick in the noggin.

The authors’ knowledge of the the evolution of church mission is rather stilted by modern culture, and as a result has several ideas on how to essentially reinvent the wheel.

Other ideas in the book were very insightful - particularly the three types of people in parish leadership.

It’s a book full of excerpts I would use...but not the whole book.

The world presented in Steamborn is pretty fascinating - spiders are mounts, giant pill bugs pull carriages, and people live in walled cities on mountainsides. The characters are charmingly voiced, and some of them are particularly well-written. There’s a decent amount of intrigue and a good setup for more books in this world, which I like.

The failures come when the pacing falls a little flat - the opening of the first book takes too long to bring us to the “fateful choice”/launch of act II. A few leads also get dropped over the course of the trilogy, but most of them thankfully don’t matter.

Overall, it’s a fun listen. If you enjoy steampunk books you’ll enjoy this.
