Historia
Sir Manual Camargue had just announced his intention of taking a second wife, 50 years his junior. On the same cold winter's day, he died as a result of what was surely a tragic accident. But Wexford doubts that Camargue's death came by misadventure.

Ghastly Narration
Revisado: 10-12-22
One of the best Wexford novels, unfortunately ruined but an awful narration. As in really really really bad. The American accents were particularly horrible.

Historia
It began in a women's club in London on a February afternoon. A discreet advertisement in The Times, addressed to "Those who Appreciate Wistaria and Sunshine..." lures four very different women away from the dismal British weather to San Salvatore, a castle high above a bay on the sunny Italian Riviera. There, the Mediterranean spirit stirs the souls of Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Wilkins, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs Fisher, and remarkable changes occur.

Historia
At this stately home, now open for public tours, visitors revel in the lush atmosphere created by its three hundred rooms, its exceptional display of fine china, its chilling dungeon with historic suits of armor on display, evoking the spirits of knights from a forgotten age. Young Michael's sister, a visitor to the mansion with their mum, presses her for an explanation of "what's a chastity belt?" while Michael fools around with one of the suits of armor....

Perfection
Revisado: 01-06-22
One of my favorite types of stories. Part English cozy, part murder mystery set at a manor house. Detective Sloan is always a delight, as is Mrs. Aird’s writing. Robin Bailey’s narration was fantastic & a perfect choice for this audiobook.

Historia
My husband was not a monster. No matter what they say.... The day my husband, Michael, stepped in front of a lorry after being questioned by the police, my world fell apart. He was devoted to me and our six-year-old daughter. But they’d connected him to the disappearance of a young mother from our tiny village.

Garbage
Revisado: 01-01-22
I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but even free is too expensive for this foolishness. The titular widow is weak, irritating, goody goody. It is unbelievable. Her soul mate (her words) & husband is killed due to the direct actions of another character, & instead of beating the hell out of her, or taking the woman straight to the police, she hangs out & even sympathizes with her! Unreal! There is not one decent character in the book after the husband dies. Every one of them is thoroughly hate-able & I do. The lead detective even quotes the theme song to Friends at one point. The twists are boring & predictable, as is the outcome. Horrible storytelling & plotting. A total waste of time. The narration was very nice though.

Historia
Why did the flushing toilet take two centuries to catch on? Why did medieval people sleep sitting up? When were the two "dirty centuries?" Why did gas lighting cause Victorian ladies to faint? Why, for centuries, did rich people fear fruit? In her brilliantly and creatively researched book, Lucy Worsley takes us through the bedroom, bathroom, living room, and kitchen.

Horrible narration ruined the book
Revisado: 03-04-21
My header says it all. Lucy Worsley is a wonderful writer & her research & knowledge are on full display in this book. Sadly, the narration is awful. It sounds like some strange automated robotic recording and not as if a real person were reading to you. I never leave nasty reviews but this narration was so offensive to my ears I feel compelled to warn others!
