Historia
When Penny Dahl calls the Finders Keepers detective agency, hoping for help locating her missing daughter, Holly Gibney is reluctant to accept the case. Her partner, Pete, has Covid. Her (very complicated) mother has just passed away. And Holly is meant to be on leave. But something in Penny’s desperate voice makes it impossible to turn her down. Meanwhile, mere blocks from where Bonnie Dahl disappeared live Professors Rodney and Emily Harris. But they are also harboring a shocking, unholy secret.

Great story, less the browbeatings...
Revisado: 12-15-23
Let's start with the story...I loved it. King is a (the) master and as always, makes the reader care about the characters. And...we already loved Holly Gibney, so that was a gimme. Adding nothing to the story, IMHO, was the endless mixing into the story of generous dollops of COVID mantra...vaccines, masks, social distancing, etc. etc. I knew from previous reviews that it was coming, so I just put my head down and took it. I guess I see discussions re: COVID as more akin to religious discussions...that is, one side will make faith based arguments, to which there can be no real argument, and the other will fly the flags of facts which will doubtless conflict with faith, so you're back at the beginning. At the end of the day, I really don't need to hear about it in a work of fiction. But hey, it's Stephen King...so, I'll read it. To summarize, I loved the characters and the story, par for the course for my relationship with the author, but I did not need all the covid stuff, which detracted (for me) slightly from the story. I found it more of a distraction. Thanks and enjoy!

Historia
Over the Atlantic in the dark of night, the electronic brain of Pangia Airlines Flight 10 quietly and without warning disconnects all the cockpit controls and reverses course on its own. The crew of the huge Airbus 330 at first senses nothing, the flight displays still showing them on course to New York. But with puzzled passengers reporting stars on the wrong side—not to mention armed fighters pulling alongside to force them to land—the confused pilots discover that Flight 10 is streaking back toward the hyper-volatile Middle East, and there is nothing they can do about it.

Nance is pretty good!
Revisado: 12-13-23
This is my second Nance audiobook. I’ve seen the guy on Air Disasters and he seems like an expert in the field of aviation. I hope as John continues to write, he can rid himself of some old terminology…like calling women ‘foxy’…he has several rarely used words that he uses over and over…but whatever…the story was interesting and plausible, and he made me care about the characters, so that’s something. Also, it was included in my membership, so that helped.

Just OK for me…
Revisado: 05-08-23
I found the narrator difficult to hear, especially while driving. I’ve got a little hearing loss but after around 150 titles, this is the first time that I think the style and type of voice by the narrator was tough for me. YMMV.
The story was a cool idea, but for me, it lost steam and ended like a piece of toast falling off your plate and onto the floor, butter side down. Again, maybe you’ll like it, but I felt the believability decreasing with each chapter. Not bad, just not great.

Pleasantly surprised...
Revisado: 12-13-21
Tried this title because it was 'Included' ... I really enjoyed the story and the narration. Some reviewers felt that the narration was 'boring' or monotone, disinterested. I couldn't disagree more. The guy (Hassell) reminded me a bit of Douglas Adams reading his own books. I thought he was very good. Anyway...the story may have been a bit of a reach, and I found the style somewhat disjointed (timeline - wise). Several times I needed to back up a couple minutes to make the transitions work. Bottom line, I liked it...I hope you do too.

Revisado: 11-26-21
Time flew and the (2) book series was over. Fuchs does a great job with character development and the storyline is believable enough. There are no epic plot twists or mysteries that need solving. There are however, harrowing, nail biting series of combat cliffhangers. Bray is awesome too.

Good if not predictable storyline.
Revisado: 10-07-21
So to start with, Snyder's narration is fine for the characters that are not Andreus. For Dewey, he does this dead sounding ultra-low, emotionless voice...which may be exactly what they were trying for, but I didn't love it. No more digging on Snyder, it must be hard work. The story (w/o spoilers) ... is predictable. Here's the thing...the Andreus character is largely invincible, to the point of unbelievability. He is able to take a tumble from a moving vehicle at high speed in the dead of winter, having already been shot (in Europe!) and somehow make it back to DC in time to play a pivotal role in saving the day...when it seemed to me, the listener, that events were happening simultaneously in Europe and the US. I don't get it. Still, an enjoyable 'read', and if you're looking at this, you will likely buy it anyway...despite the shortcomings.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Exciting read...
Revisado: 09-15-19
I like Carr’s style. True Believer was a great read for me...while I enjoy the genre, some authors seem to get mired in technical terminology that really doesn’t mean that much to me. While Carr certainly describes weapon systems and all the bits involved, he doesn’t get lost in it. The story is always on top, and I like his character development. I find Carr’s books to be fun, mostly plausible reads.
