Historia
Two-and-a-half-year-old Holly is playing happily in a pink, plastic playhouse, while her mother Rachel sips coffee and chats with a friend nearby. It should be an ordinary day for all of them. But, in the blink of an eye, it turns into every family’s worst nightmare. Holly is taken by a stranger and never found. Nine years later, Rachel is living a quiet life in Dorset. She’s tried to keep things together since the traumatic day when she lost her eldest daughter.

Wow
Revisado: 01-16-25
I listen to A LOT of Shalini Boland's books, so I kind of know her "formula", but this book did catch me off guard! When the truth came out, I audibly said, "Wait. What?" I truly wasn't expecting the twist! I've listened to it twice so far and will listen to it again in the future, because that's what I do. I really liked thos book!

Linsey and Nattie strike up a fast friendship.

Good book

Unfortunately, there are people wjmho are bigoted and ignorant who think like the grandfather in this book. It angers me people can claim to be Christian, but then openly hate people who are different from them and actively want to take away the rights of others.

Historia
Lillian's world is full of grand parties, sunshine, and promises, as thrilling as the fairy tales Mama spins for her and her little sister, Eugenia. No one, not even her cold, stern Papa and her Bible spouting sister Emily, can crush her spirits—until the day Emily reveals the shattering secret at Lillian's birth, a secret Mama sadly cannot deny. Still Lillian refuses to believe Emily's hateful claim that she is evil, a curse...even when sweet, gentle Eugenia loses her fragile hold on life, and Mama retreats further into her fantasies.

It's okay
Revisado: 10-14-23
I read this series when I was younger. Young Lillian is nice, kind and caring. We don't know the exact dates of when these books happened, but I think there are major historical accuracies. I think Dawn happened in the 1950s or 1960s at the latest. That would have to mean that Eugenia was born well before they knew about Cystic Fibrosis.
It's kind of shocking that the Lillian of this book became the Lillian of Dawn.

This is actually the first series I read by "VC Andrews". I was really sad during this book because I liked Dawn. Listening to this series years later brings me back to what I felt when I was younger.
I think this was the weakest of the series, honestly.
It always bothered me how much VC Andrews books focused on looks. Like some how a beautiful or a good looking person had to be a good person or not have any problems. It's just not true. And some how a beautiful or good looking person "deserves" to be rich and successful. That's a theme in almost all of the VC Andrews books, depending on who the ghost writer was, and it really always bothered me.

Historia
I wrap my arms around the tree trunk, pressing my cheek against it until the bark digs in and the missing poster is finally secured. I try not to look at the photograph on it. At the features so similar to mine. Perhaps this will be the year someone comes forward. Were crucial mistakes made by detectives from the very beginning? Could the pressure of living two lives have led my sister to run away - or even end it? Or did someone in her tight circle of friends and family have reason to want her gone? Someone out there must know something.

I like this book a lot!
Revisado: 02-02-23
I really like this book. I had twin brothers, who have died, so there is an emotional connection right there. I am a dog trainer, like the main character. The main character gave me a way to deal with an animal abuse situation. There is even a Bichon Frise in the book! I currently have a Bichon Frise! I really liked this book, the personal connections only adding to the whole experience. I do agree with the criticism that the first half is a little slow, but it's worth it. I absolutely do not agree with the negative "boring" reviews. I'd describe it as a slow build up, NOT boring!

The Silent Ones

KL Slater is a new favorite author of mine. I first found her because of a free book. Honestly, some bits of this book were predictable, but there were others that made my jaw drop! I do recommend this book and will be listening to more of this author/narrator combo.

Historia
My little girl’s room is dark. Her bed is empty. I turn on her unicorn nightlight and bury my face in her pillow, my heart breaking. I know who did this. His name is Samuel Barlow. He has pale sallow skin and red-rimmed icy-blue eyes. But no one will listen. As darkness falls and rain lashes against the window, there’s a knock at my door and I open it to see those same eyes staring back at me. It’s his mother and she says she can help me find my daughter.

This is the first book I've listened to by this author. I chose it because it was free. I will be looking for more books from thos author and listening to this book again. I guessed one twist in the book, but there were others I did not see coming. I enjoyed the story; it kept moving at a good pace. I'm very glad I listened to it!

Not My Fave
Revisado: 04-13-22
I found this story confusing, like I missed something. I wondered if it was an unabridged version of the book. Also, the descriptions were often redundant. For example, "I felt nauseous. I felt like I could throw up." I didn't hate the book, but it wasn't my favorite

It Hit Home
Revisado: 04-08-22
This book really hit home. i had two brothers die in the same general manner as one of the characters in this book. I've struggled with the aftermath. I've struggled with the questions. i've heard the presumptions that someone like my brothers wouldn't die that way because "they had so much going for them." Some things are deepers than just "skin deep". I also wanted to write a book with a very similar plot. So this book hit home for me.
