I NEED BOOK 5 TODAY!
Revisado: 11-06-23
Nick Jones, you need to HURRY IT UP with book 5!! I love the series, and I’m sitting on pins and needles waiting to know what happens next! I was truly mad at the end of reading 4 that 5 wasn’t out yet, and for a book to elicit that level of emotional reaction from me, it must be an excellent series indeed! It’s fun getting lost in the story and the characters, who are so well developed and thoughtfully written, and the wit and genuineness of the primary character, Joe, makes him so relatable.

Historia
Addie's getting into the spirit for the upcoming Charity Auction - especially since she's got an 1843 copy of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol to donate. Her former colleagues at the Boston Public Library have confirmed that its worth runs toward the high five figures, which should help with the new pediatric wing. Her mood darkens, though, when a visitor from the past appears - Jonathan Hemingway, the father of her late fiance. His presence stirs up sad memories for Addie, but also has her fuming when Jonathan runs off for a lunchtime liaison with Teresa Lang.

Good mystery, bad love story!
Revisado: 04-18-23
I enjoyed the mystery part of this story, but the back and forth, all over the place live interests are just ridiculous, and frankly outright annoying, to the point that I’m not sure I’ll continue reading the series. It’s just so melodramatic and badly written.

Good characters, major plot holes
Revisado: 03-17-23
I thought this book had the potential to be a good book… there were some good characters and solid general premise. But the plot line of the book was just kinda… well, ridiculous, honestly. I’m fairly ok with suspension of d disbelief in my reading; if it’s fun, it’s ok to maybe push it some. But goodness… this one was too much for my taste, and the mystery was not particularly mysterious. It lacks the cleverness of Agatha Christie or other greats of the genre. I don’t think I’ll be continuing with this series, unfortunately.

Classic!

Excellent! Except for the songs… they were kind of annoying, the way they were sung by this narrator… wrong voice type, wrong tune ideas. But otherwise great!

Historia
Mark Ablett's stately mansion, the Red House, is filled with very proper guests when his most improper brother returns from Australia. The prodigal brother enters Mark's study, the parlor maid hears arguing and the brother dies...rather suddenly, with a bullet between the eyes. The study is locked from the inside and Mark is missing! Investigating the crime is wealthy Antony Gillingham, who rivals Sherlock Holmes in his remarkable powers of observation.

Painful
Revisado: 11-16-22
I would really, really prefer to rave over this book, but I just can’t. I honestly found it tediously painful to listen to. I just didn’t care at all about the characters, and found the plot slow and uninteresting. But I will always cherish Milne for his wonderful contributions to children’s literature! There, he’s 10 stars!

Historia
For the Sake of the Game is the latest volume in the award-winning series from New York Times best-selling editors Laurie R. King and Leslie S. Klinger, with stories of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, and friends in a variety of eras and forms. King and Klinger have a simple formula: Ask some of the world's greatest writers-regardless of genre - to be inspired by the stories of Arthur Conan Doyle. The results are surprising and joyous.

This one is my favorite of the series thus far! The way it wove together was fantastic, and I felt the performance was solid, as well.

Historia
In March of 1926, Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher and her friend and collaborator, Lady Lucy Gerald, head off for several days to a stately home reputed to have the best grotto in the country. Working on a book of architectural follies, they plan to research and photograph it. Leaving her husband and young twins behind, Daisy is expecting a productive weekend at Appsworth Hall, with the only potential difficulty being keeping Lucy from offending the current owner, a manufacturer of plumbing products. Alas, it's not to be quite so simple.

Good, but the ending was unsatisfying
Revisado: 04-04-22
I found the conclusion to be a bit abrupt and unsatisfying. I also think the reader generally does quite well, but at times, the characters she does with her high-pitched voice become quite grating and the squeakiness of it becomes headache inducing.
