The best historical fiction (HF) doesn’t hide from the painful aspects of our past. These are stories that are not limited by the oppression our Ancestors faced. Well written HF acknowledges the full breadth of their humanity. Leslye Penelope navigates that tightrope expertly. Shayna Small brings this powerful story to life with beautiful narration. I highly recommend this book.

Oh! It’s on and popping!!

I am ready for the next book. The characters, relationships, and world building are top notch. Redefining narratives that had me examining a lot of things. Where is SHE? What is really going on with the Big Three? I can’t wait to see how the repercussions will play out. Noelle Vella takes family feuds to the next level! Well done!

Justice!

I loved hearing the backstories to this season of True Detective. While some viewers are enamored with the first season, each season of the show brings its own energy. We see the impact of these cases on the detectives. The hero’s journey. The real boogeyman that we are afraid of are the truths we need to face in order to grow. This is a series about courageously facing our truths and the power we gain when we bring them to the light.

A Beautiful Love Story

I’ve grown bored with the soft porn disguised as romance. We get to genuinely know Diego and Mikki. Well developed characters with real grown up issues. Great narration! I was rooting for their love. I recommend this book. Well worth the credit!

A Powerful Love Story

I am a huge fan of historical fiction. Tia Williams has moved onto my list of favorite writers. Her characters are well developed. She writes beautifully. The story has weight. The unbelievable becomes real. The ending was perfect. Excellent work!! I wish I could give her more stars!

I usually skip May December romances. This is book is definitely an exception. Ramses has the heart of an artist. Brielle comes into the picture right on time. Together they find the love they need and deserve. We want them to win!

The closing to a live story that kept me on the edge of my seat. Eden O’Neill didn’t give us the typical formulaic bully romance. We see the evolution and healing of both characters. I am here for it!

Narration is horrible.

I have read all of Beverly Jenkins' books multiple times. The narration of this book is a disservice to a wonderful story. Please consider doing this again with a new narrator.

One of the Best Bios I've Heard.

When I learned that Gabrielle was continuing with her personal journey, I immediately purchased the audiobook in advance. I purchased a hardcover and audio version of her last book, and I found her storytelling refreshing. This book is different. She holds a mirror up close to her life and she unflinchingly shares her story. Her vulnerability, honesty, and analysis are like sharing with your best friend. She doesn't sugarcoat her truth or tries to make the reader comfortable. We are getting the real woman who is working out her stuff and striving to be her best and highest self. As a survivor, healing and finding her voice, she easily leads us through her journey through forgiveness, fertility experiences, and unconditional love. She confronts systemic and cultural racism and challenges us to look at ourselves. Gabrielle doesn't know me from Eve, but I am so proud of this Sister. I highly recommend that you leave your doubts and expectations at the door and join her on this ride of growing self-love and truth.
