Solid FINISH!
Revisado: 06-14-18
I loved Cal - White Knight through and through!
I loved Maven as his foil and was hopeful till the end
I loved book 1 and 4 Mare. She became so harsh that I just couldn't find compassion but she redeemed herself.
I didnt know I wanted Evangline's perspective but yay!
I LOVED the overt and subtlety diverse characters. There is room in this world for everyone to be represented!
One of the best series conclusions and I'm going to imagine that love wins in the end.

Historia
At 13, bright-eyed straight-A student Sara Saedi uncovered a terrible family secret: She was breaking the law simply by living in the United States. Only two years old when her parents fled Iran, she didn't learn of her undocumented status until her older sister wanted to apply for an after-school job but couldn't because she didn't have a Social Security number. Fear of deportation kept Sara up at night, but it didn't keep her from being a teenager.

Enjoyable Listen
Revisado: 06-01-18
The dichotomy of Sara's life in the U.S. was interesting as she was both privileged (plastic surgery as a birthday present???) but faced citizenship issues due to government bureaucracy. The narrator's tone was laced with a little too much sarcasm and dampened the empathy I probably would have if I read it myself.

A perfect storm of emotions: dread and hope
Revisado: 04-13-18
Our children need to see themselves and the world in stories! Refugee should be in every library and maybe home. In the story, we meet three families on three journeys to one truth. We need each other! My heart breaks and aches but let's remember that the ending is not in stone! It's still being written. How do we help the next Josef, Isabel or Mahmoud?

Intriguing Magical Twist
Revisado: 03-16-18
Initially this novel has a slow pace and I was unsure about the plot or to even continue but the story eventually builds up to a powerful mystery and the ending is highly satisfying! The narrator grew on me but he was not my favorite. His Clark voice was my favorite.

Historia
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

A must read! (or listen)
Revisado: 11-05-16
This narrative reminds me to be better and is just eye opening to the amount of miscarriage of justice that we accept, desire and request without thinking about the true reasons people are arrested, mitigating circumstances or the life altering outcomes! Please read and share with others!

I made it to the end!
Revisado: 09-18-16
Excellent narration and performance but I was more driven to complete the trilogy based on the idea of being finished than on the writing and plot. I'm glad I pushed through since the story took a turn for the better and the ending was overall pretty satisfying.

Historia
Just when 17-year-old Matt thinks he can't handle one more piece of terrible news, he meets a girl who’s dealt with a lot more - and who just might be able to clue him in on how to rise up when life keeps knocking him down - in this wry, gritty novel from the author of When I Was the Greatest. Matt wears a black suit every day. No, not because his mom died - although she did, and it sucks.

Excellent meta tale of love and loss!
Revisado: 08-11-16
Exploring the ups and downs of life with the main character, Matthew Miller, is a fascinating journey of chance, risk and how to with love and loss. It's a must read for youth 13 and up. Although there is some mature language is fitting to the tone and age of the characters! I can't wait to read Reynolds next piece!!
