This book is about pleasure. It’s also about pain. Most important, it’s about how to find the delicate balance between the two, and why now more than ever finding balance is essential. We’re living in a time of unprecedented access to high-reward, high-dopamine stimuli: drugs, food, news, gambling, shopping, gaming, texting, sexting, Facebooking, Instagramming, YouTubing, tweeting....

Just what I wanted to read
Revisado: 12-24-24
I was back and forth on this because several reviews said there was no practical advice in this book. After finishing, what I think happened is that those reviews were from folks in denial and/or not wanting to take steps to remove their addictions from their lives. There’s plenty of concrete recommendations in this book, I highly recommended it to everyone (especially if you know deep down you over-consume anything in your life).

Historia
After the disastrous end to the Culling, Talos demands Alexander’s absolute loyalty as penance for his attempt at rebellion. If he continues to fight back against Talos’ control, the Naharaim Valley will die. But if he gives in and helps Talos keep his stranglehold on Persepolis and its Champions, the carnage in the Coliseum will never end. Without a friend left in the Village, and with Samuel and his underground rebellion nowhere to be found, Alexander is alone under Talos' watchful eye, trapped in an impossible game where each day of indecision ends in more bodies.

I loved Champion and was instantly drawn in. Walker nails it again as the author and narrator, putting you right there in every scene. The seamless transition from the excitement of Champion will leave you wanting for book 3, just like me. I highly recommend this story, you will not be disappointed!!

Historia
He never wanted to become a Champion, but ambition changes everything. Modern society has fallen, but the people of the Naharaim Valley have learned to survive…barely. The Harvesters, peddling the promise of provision and supplies for the families of their chosen Champions, visit periodically through a Gate connecting Naharaim to a far more advanced society on the other side. Alexander has always been a survivor, solitary and able to take care of himself and his family.

Anxious for book 2!!
Revisado: 04-21-22
Walker tells the brilliant story of young Alexander as he trains and fights to honor his family and his clan. Walker’s narration is superb. As I worked through this audiobook, I found myself listening more and more with each moment I had to give, as the book grew more exciting with each passing chapter. This work of fiction is so immersive in its imagery that you really feel like you are right there alongside Alexander through every struggle. This story is rich in details and I cannot recommend it highly enough. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!!

Historia
Best-selling author Michael Crichton talks with Audible's publisher Beth Anderson about his latest book, State of Fear. In this interview, Crichton explains how he came to rethink common wisdom about global warming. In the three year process of writing and researching the book, Crichton witnessed firsthand how difficult it can be to unearth scientific truth in a heavily politicized atmosphere. He warns against fanaticism and explains why a healthy skepticism is imperative in these fearful times.

Since the 2008 recession began, sales of Atlas Shrugged have surged and the novel (and author Ayn Rand) have landed at the center of American politics. Whether you decide to embrace Ayn Rand's ideas, reject them, or simply want to be able to participate in an informed way in conversations about Rand's ideas, this slim volume will help you understand her revolutionary philosophy and identify the myths circulating about her ideas. Four authors identify some prominent myths, show why they are false, and state the plain facts that the myths conceal.

Do you even lift?
Revisado: 01-03-17
I was happily surprised by this book, and so stoked that the Brofessor himself narrated. I can't imagine if some other square tried to read this out loud. This book is like every one of his YouTube videos expanded upon so you don't miss the point. Great listen, if you've ever thought about lifting I recommend this book. I found myself almost pissing myself laughing pretty often.

One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.
