The plot!!!
Revisado: 04-16-25
I really liked the story in Forged of Fire—the plot moved quickly and kept me interested the whole way through. What stood out most was the worldbuilding and the twists along the way. It definitely had that “just one more chapter” feel.
That said, some of the character development felt a little thin. I wanted to connect more with the main characters, especially as things got intense.
The narration was a bit of a mixed bag for me. The male narrator had a great voice overall, but it felt a little off when he voiced the female characters—it was hard to take some scenes seriously.
Still, it was a solid listen and I’d probably keep going with the series to see where it goes next.

Meh…
Revisado: 03-25-25
I wanted to love this book, but it fell flat for me. The plot had too many holes and convenient shifts that pushed the story forward without real development. The FMC was frustrating—her actions felt inconsistent, swinging between self-loathing, impulsive bravery, and reckless choices. Her inability to follow instructions to save her dying friend was especially frustrating, making the stakes feel forced rather than natural.
Overall, the story had potential, but the lack of character growth and cohesion made it hard to stay engaged. Not sure if I’ll continue the series.

Dark and gripping
Revisado: 03-12-25
I actually enjoyed this one! The whole dystopian prison vibe was intense, and Khalani’s story had me hooked. The tension with Takeshi was chef’s kiss — dark, complicated, and so good. The pacing was fast, and the world-building felt super real. A couple of character choices didn’t totally make sense to me, but overall, it was hard to put down. Definitely grabbing the sequel!

Most schools are about being the best. This school? It's about being the worst. Calder Academy is where the rogue paranormals go. The ones who break the rules or lose control. And when that happens for vamps, werewolves, witches, and dark fae? It gets pretty freaking scary. I should know. Because I'm trapped here.

Confusing and choppy, but I kept going
Revisado: 03-12-25
Very much YA. The story felt confusing and choppy throughout, with not enough context to explain why things were happening the way they were. It left me feeling lost more often than not. But, true to form, I kept going, hoping it would eventually come together or lead somewhere satisfying — unfortunately, it never quite did.

Historia
I spent five years saving up for a European vacation. But instead of drinking champagne on the beach, I get swept into a war of espionage between the humans and the fey. It turns out, I have a magic power needed to fight an evil fey king. I'm quickly whisked off to an elite spy academy in a hidden realm. There, in the ancient and gothic halls of Avalon Tower, snobbery and brutal competitions are among the oldest traditions.

Interesting plot…but misses the mark
Revisado: 03-10-25
Interesting storyline, character development and chemistry wasn’t great…too much “inner dialogue” from the FMC - almost like she likes hearing her own voice…it took away from the plot.

That Ending!
Revisado: 02-25-25
It was a good listen, fast-paced, interesting world and magic, I was fully engaged through out…the only draw back was I wish there was more detail and context of the history and characters - the lack of this impacted the overall comprehension of the full story. But it was a good enough.

Engaging yet confusing
Revisado: 01-22-25
This book offered an engaging journey with it’s compelling characters, intriguing world, and magic system. I was hooked from the beginning and eager to see where the story went. However, there were issues…lack of clarity in key areas, with gaps in the narrative that made it difficult to follow what was happening.
This story would have benefited from more context about the work and its history, as well as stronger focus on certain plot elements that felt incomplete or underdeveloped. The pacing of the book kept me invested, but some parts seemed rushed or forgotten, which disrupted the flow.
Despite these issues I still enjoyed the core storyline and found it entertaining overall.

I have never been favored by the gods. Far from it, thanks to Zeus. Living as a cursed office clerk for the Order of Thieves, I just keep my head down and hope the capricious beings who rule from Olympus won’t notice me. Not an easy feat, given San Francisco is Zeus’ patron city, but I make do. I survive. Until the night I tangle with a different god. The worst god. Hades. For the first time ever, the ruthless, mercurial King of the Underworld has entered the Crucible—the deadly contest the gods hold to determine a new ruler to sit on the throne of Olympus.

Addictive…
Revisado: 01-17-25
This was an addictive read/listen, that had me fully immersed in the world, characters and story. The pacing was excellent, the stakes felt real, and I couldn’t put it down.
As much as I enjoyed most of the book, I struggled with the ending. It felt like a significant shift from the tone and internal logic that had made the story so compelling. The resolution seemed a bit too perfect, which undercut the complexity and emotional depth that had drawn me in from the beginning., I am not sure I will continue with the sequel. The ending didn’t leave me eager to see what happened next, and the potential directions for the story don’t appeal to me personally. But i would still recommend, it was a good read!

Flat Performance, Clunky Story
Revisado: 01-16-25
The Prince of Terrana had so much potential, but unfortunately, it missed the mark for me. While the plot itself held promise, the execution left a lot to be desired.
Let’s start with the audiobook. I don’t often complain about narrators, but this one completely threw me off. The voice performance was flat, lacking any real emotion or inflection. It felt as if the narrator was just reading the words with little connection to the material. It made the experience almost unbearable, and I found myself zoning out during key moments. Thankfully, I had the ebook version to fall back on, but even that didn't save the experience.
The story itself had an interesting premise, but it felt clunky and disjointed. The transitions between scenes were jarring, and I had a hard time keeping track of what was happening from one chapter to the next. There was little flow, and important plot points seemed to appear out of nowhere, making it difficult to engage with the story. The pacing felt off, and characters’ motivations weren’t always clear, which led to frustration rather than immersion.
This book could have been so much more, and I honestly think it needs a serious rewrite. It has the bones of an intriguing story, but the execution just wasn’t there for me. I kept pushing through in hopes it would find its footing, but it never quite did.
If you're considering reading this, I’d recommend going into it with caution, and maybe skip the audiobook version if you're sensitive to performance issues.

Unexpected and Fantastic
Revisado: 12-18-24
I went in completely blind and ended up really enjoying it. Tracy Deonn brings such a fresh perspective to YA fantasy, blending magic, history, and some deeper themes in a way that feels unique and exciting.
I especially loved how the story felt so empowering and different from a lot of books in the genre. The main character is incredible, and the whole journey had me hooked.
If you’re looking for something that’s fresh, exciting, and has a lot of heart, definitely give Legendborn a shot!
