This is never going to be an easy subject to deal with - whether you have an alcoholic in your own family, it's a friend or it's you... the stress of trying to help or change, knowing what approaches to take, what to avoid ... it's really tough.
This book takes a no nonsense approach to breaking things down in a way that is refreshingly easy to digest.
I would recommend people read this even if you don't think you have an alcoholic in your circle of friends and family - you may realize after reading it, that in fact someone in your circle is struggling with this affliction.
My only issue with the audiobook is that the narration doesn't quite do justice to the content - it's clearly spoken, but the sentences of broken with pauses which are probably due to a teleprompter, and don't match the actual sentence structure. This is not a make or break issue - still listen - it will be worthwhile!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Set in remote parts of Africa it takes you into the cultures of the countries where the action takes place.
Even though this was the second time I listened to this book, it kept me guessing who the bad guy was going to turn out to be.
The story is original, captivating and exciting, and the characters are well drawn. I could see this being a great movie!

The complexity of the story really starts to come out in this second book. Some things you'll probably suspect but some, trust me, you won't guess! The world is a messed up place in this book and every time you think you've got a handle on who's who and what's what...yeah, you'll be turning around and around
I very much enjoyed this second book - I was given a copy for an honest review.

The concept for the story is good and the writer builds her scenes and all the special characteristics well. For me, I don't relate to the kind of person the main character is and I suspect that's my cultural background (non-American) she's a too giggly, too reactive teenager, as are most of the characters, but hey! That's a LOT of kids these days, so I really suspect that will actually be a plus for most listeners! Despite that, the story kept building and twisting , keeping you guessing what the relationships are between characters and how things are going to turn out and the story is original - well conceptualised idea. Most importantly, at the end, yep, I wanted to find out what happens next.

The story starts to get more complex in this book and the characters develop in ways you maybe didn't expect them too. The mythology is inventive and gives a rich backdrop for the teen romance and best friends and enemies as they do battle to change their fates or enforce the fates, depending which side they're on.
The narrator really gets comfy with her characters in these novels and brings Sophie Davis' characters to life nicely. Davis' does a good job at carrying us through the teenage angst and I was both surprised and silently urging 'No, no! Don't do THAT!' at many points - just like a good movie!
I think if you enjoyed the first, you'll definitely enjoy this and now I have to see what happens in the third! Yes, a suspense filled cliffhanger ending!

Enthralling teen romance mystical adventure

First off, I'm by no means a teen and I really enjoyed listening to this book. The story is nicely complex and the characters well drawn with characters emerging richly as the story unfolds. Mixing Greek mythology into her own twists, the author Sophie Davis takes us on a captivating tale of teenage self-discovery where myth penetrates real lives and real life dramas mix themselves up into the mystical world causing the seams to start to tear a bit at the edges.
I find it fascinating how narrators manage a variety of voices and Kate Richardson does a good job here though all the male voices speak just noticeably slowler and it made me aware it must be quite challenging to get that deep voice...but she does a great job and you get a definite feeling that each character is speaking in their own voice which really adds to the listening experience.
You're left with a definite cliffhanger at the end - well, it's a series tale and this one had me reaching for the next book

Great Second Book - More Mystery & Intrigue

Revisado: 08-28-19

I loved the first book in this series, so when I was asked if I'd like to read (listen to) the second for an honest review, I jumped at the chance!
It started off a bit slow and I'm still a bit unsure about the narrator's accent sometimes, but once it got going, the mystery and intrigue of this fantasy world swept me up and I couldn't put it down. I love the way the author uses just enough of myth, religion, history, to create a connection to the world we know (or maybe we just think we know!).
This second book in the Aizai series has all the necessary bits for a great story - revenge, secrecy, evil ones, romance, ones who you can't quite figure if they're evil or not...conflict, magic, far off lands and familiar places
I highly recommend this series and am so looking forward to the next in the series

There's much about the era of slavery and colonialism that has not been told: mostly the stories of the slaves and later the freedmen and women and indentured servants. The Freedman tells one such story. Very well researched and with characters that come to life in well-chosen roles, you'll not only learn a lot about this era when America was beginning to strike out against England, but you'll also be captivated by the story.
Hedbor does a great job of breathing life into the struggles of conscience of the characters on many different levels with unexpected turns here and there that create an authentic story.
Definitely worth a listen! A good contribution to a story that should be told.

Louise's War Audiolibro Por Sarah R. Shaber arte de portada

Let me say outright, at the beginning I felt like the narration was a bit stilted, some words almost computer-like - BUT that very soon passed and Louise's Story came to life and carried me along with it as the story unfolded 'page-by-page' with intrigue, wry observations on a woman's place in work and life in wartime America.
There author, Sarah R. Shaber, manages to touch on quite a number of subjects: religion, politics, chavanism, women's rights and dreams and does so without it feeling like she's trying to - the story naturally hits those challenges as Louise tries to figure out her work and private life, solve the mystery of the missing file, be a bit of a spy...
Disclaimer: I was given a free copy for an honest review. I can say I really enjoyed this book and found myself at the end, wondering what Louise and the people in her life would get up to next!

A whirlwind of French!

I am still a beginner when it comes to learning French and I found this audiobook made it so much more possible for me to recognise words within sentences and conversations and from there, it becomes much easier to understand what is being spoken about.
When you have spare time, or just as a regular practice, listen to 5 or 10 or 30 minues of this book and soon enough you will not have to think twice about what many more French words mean
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review - and I am very happy I did - this book will remain in my library and be used for much time to come - it's a big resource.
