Extremely well written and very engaging. Exciting, witty funny, gives a lot of excellent color to the ever expanding lore of 40k. I feel as though I’ve definitely found my new obsession. Highly recommend, fun listen and great narrators.

Revisado: 05-19-19
“As usual, Neal Asher delivers again with a smashing sequel to The Solder: The Rise of the Jain. Without any spoilers, this novel DRASTICALLY ups the ante and keeps giving us the amazing political humor, satire, military and hardscifi, all in JUST the right amounts.”

Historia
In the year 2243, the Moon belongs to the dead. The largest graveyard in the solar system, it was the perfect solution to the overcrowding and environmental problems that had plagued mankind for centuries. And the perfect place for Cali Washington to run away from her past. But when a mysterious meteor crashes into one of the Moon’s cemeteries, Cali and her fellow Caretakers find themselves surrounded by a terrifying enemy force that outnumbers them more than a thousand to one. An enemy not hindered by the lack of air or warmth or sustenance. An enemy that is already dead.

Shoudnt be advertised as threshold book 3
Revisado: 04-29-19
Aside from the short 50 word prologue and similar epilogue, this work just really doesn’t seem to fit well in lot this universe. If I would have known that 98% of this would just be “zombies on the moon” has really no explanation or exploration of the links and connection of the first two. It’s hundreds of years jn the future, what happened with the building keeping the universe safe from the “other side?” The corporation that kept it safe? Unless this is a really long boring setup for the next book which probably takes place on earth, then this book should be seen as a standalone.
I honestly thought this process for the book was “pick as many classic horror tropes and string them along”
Meteor that resurrects the dead? Check, OF night of the living dead, zombies and creatures in a sealed space station crawling though ducts? alien series, check, using the grave digger to try and kill the queen at the very end? Check, Aliens again. I know peter clines is a better author than this, so I have to assume he did this on purpose , but very disappointing none the less

In depth and well researched, but at over 20 years old, becoming dated
Revisado: 03-05-19
There were many points in listening to this, upon hearing a sociological/socioeconomic comparison between, say a more “native” culture and an invading one, that I would mentally brace for what I feared would be some euro-centric analysis or critique. I am pleased to say that this was unwarranted. Although some of the dates and information presented is a bit out of date (it’s just over 20 years old, and a LOT has been discovered physically and generically since then!) the ideas and concepts still hold true. I was constantly impressed with this white, evolutionary biologist’s ability to write and act more the anthropologist and refrain from any moralizing or looking down on more primitive cultures; indeed the author seems to have spent almost half their lives living and studying and working with the native stone ages tribes of Australia and Papau New Guinea, and thus has a wealth of knowledge, empathy, and as close to a true understanding as someone privileged to live in this as he does, and lets be honest; any of us listening to an audio book is living in a privileged state of nature—-but have you ever wondered what environmental, sociological and even epidemiological factors and reasons that led you to such a place in life? Guns Germs and Steel is a great way to explore that very question.
****Warning—-You really need to be into this material, as if you are not, a lot of the listing of properties, dates and the like may be tedious and boring for someone who doesn’t relish all the little details, this guy DELIVERS on that!——

Historia
Here is a modern novelette in H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos. Imagine David Cronenberg directing Dr. Strangelove, based on a script by H. P. Lovecraft. Imagine an alternate history in which nuclear bombs are not the ultimate weapon, but instead are merely a stepping stone to eldritch technologies accessible through certain trans-dimensional forces first encountered in 1920s Antarctica, technologies that neither the United States nor the USSR can quite contain.
