Can you imagine writing to Father Christmas and actually getting a reply? Every year, the children of J.R.R. Tolkien would write to Father Christmas, and the letters they received told wonderful stories of his adventures at the North Pole. These humorous tales are brought to life by Derek Jacobi as Father Christmas, John Moffatt as Polar Bear, and Christian Rodska as Ilbereth the Elf, complete with specially composed music.

Superb!
Revisado: 12-18-22
So enjoyable. I smiled and laughed throughout the book. The antics of North Polar Bear and the way he “helps” is delightful.
I love imagining the pictures that Father Christmas draws. The narration is fantastic and the musical interludes are wonderful.
I have enjoyed this so much I am on the 3rd listen in less than a week and I am still smiling.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 05-15-22
I quite enjoyed this road trip from New York to the Highlands of NC.
I think some of the “Southern” is over the top and the speech pattern was too fast paced. Yes, I’m Southern, I live in NE Georgia.
I liked all of the characters and the telling of the story. I enjoy Lisa Wingate’s writing style and the way she weaves the tale from past to present.

Couldn’t keep listening
Revisado: 03-01-22
I thought that the story sounded interesting.
When I started listening I struggled to keep listening as every sentence read caused me to cringe. Listening to this narrator was like listening to a new reader of the English language who didn’t know about punctuation and voice intonation.
I hope it’s a good story but I I don’t know.

Historia
J. R. R. Tolkien, an orphan in love with words, spent most of his life as an unassuming Professor of Literature at Oxford studying and teaching old languages. During his time there, he created his very own languages and a mythological world, Middle-earth. Middle-earth was inhabited by Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves, and other fascinating creatures. It was a world that became almost more real to Tolkien than the one he lived in. Tolkien’s two masterpieces, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, have set the standard in mythological literature.

The melody moves throughout the story
Revisado: 12-25-21
James Langton brought the story to life with his pleasant voice and perfectly timed narration.
The characters are memorable, frustrating and lovable just like the people we may all know.
I enjoyed the way the story was woven between past and present to reveal the layers of each character as well as the way the music was woven throughout the story: you could just hear the strains of each melody.
I listened once, enjoyed it so much I listened again!

Fantastic read/ audible
Revisado: 07-06-21
Kate Morton is a talented story teller who weaves so many threads of characters in past and present and neatly binds them together.
The story is spellbinding. I couldn’t wait until I had time to listen to the next bit and then when it was over I bought the paperback book to read!
I can’t recommend it enough.
Joanne Froggatt is an amazing actress who is able to bring each character to life.
I’m on to the next Kate Morton read.
