Lots of fun pop culture, nostalgia, and personal insight.

I learned a lot about who the Spice Girls are and how their music was composed and arranged by themselves and their A&R team. Her descriptions of their production and development methods can leave no doubt they are the real thing. They were really not a fake, manufactured girl/boy group like we see so often in the music industry.

Mental and physical health are focuses of many chapters, from the black dark of depression to anorexia to relationships and to self-loathing, she talks about it all. Not to mention the English press' brutal treatment of all of the Spice Girls and their families and friends.

Most chapters begin with a fun rundown of pop culture terms from the time. Discussions of business issues were interesting for someone like me who is looking in from the outside. Melanie C's voice is also nice to listen to.

This was about his first 21 years but he jumped around so much in the timeline I thought I was listening to his whole life's story.
I didn't know he was a junkie and his battles with addiction and mental illness were very interesting even though he kept reminding us he was still not yet 21 when these things happened.
I liked the musical interludes. This makes this an even more unique and enjoyable audiobook.
I would like to hear the story of the rest of his life soon. Honestly, I thought I heard more of his 21+ life in several chapters. We have 50+ years more to hear about.

Interesting story but the narrator was unbearable

What made the experience of listening to The Answer to the Riddle Is Me the most enjoyable?
The story is very interesting introspective look at an amnesiac who tries to rediscover himself.

How could the performance have been better?
The narrator has a rather obnoxious affect to his voice which detracted significantly from the story, and his impressions of Indian Asian speakers was more annoying that I would have liked. I would rather have the actual author of this book, David MacLean, to have read it, instead. Like many others, I first heard this story when the author read a compelling excerpt of his book on the "This American Life" radio program. That performance was far more compelling than the disappointing and presumptuous presentation that Neil Shah gives here on Audible. It was distracting to say the least.
