Historia
In 2021 cryptocurrency went mainstream. Giant investment funds were buying it, celebrities like Tom Brady endorsed it, and TV ads hailed it as the future of money. Hardly anyone knew how it worked—but why bother with the particulars when everyone was making a fortune from Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, or some other bizarrely named “digital asset”? As he observed this frenzy, investigative reporter Zeke Faux had a nagging question: Was it all just a confidence game of epic proportions? What started as curiosity—with a dash of FOMO—would morph into a two-year globe-spanning quest.

Great Story. Well Read
Revisado: 01-17-24
Crypto has always intrigued me, purely from a "this is too good to be true" perspective. I was not surprised by what I listened to, but I was captivated.
An interesting narrative, read very very well.

As good as Vaughan's written words are, his spoken words are even better! Was a pleasure to listen to. A very interesting story and one that needs to be told.

Since its founding in 1892, GE has been more than just a corporation. For generations, it was job security, a solidly safe investment, and an elite business education for top managers. GE electrified America, powering everything from lightbulbs to turbines, and became fully integrated into the American societal mindset as few companies ever had. And after two decades of leadership under legendary CEO Jack Welch, GE entered the twenty-first century as America's most valuable corporation. Yet, fewer than two decades later, the GE of old was gone.

An Eye-Opening Look Behind the GE Curtain
Revisado: 09-21-20
While this book started slow, it finished strong. The story of the post Jack Welch era is one that needed to be told. The similarities between Enron and GE both in practice and hubris are shocking and not-shocking all at the same time.

Revisado: 06-04-20
Sam Manicom's Under Asian Skies is an amazing story about an even more amazing adventure. Sam draws readers and listeners alike in with his immersive writing. Sam reads the book and hearing the emotion in his voice truly makes you feel like you are riding along. A bonus in this story is that we get to meet Birgit (she exists!). Well worth a read or a listen whether your a motorcycle traveler or just like reading memoirs. Fair warning though, you will be inspired!

When Jared Dillian joined Lehman Brothers in 2001, he fulfilled a life-long dream to make it on Wall Street - but he had no idea how close to the edge the job would take him. Like Michael Lewis' classic Liar's Poker, Jared Dillian's Street Freak takes listeners behind the scenes of the legendary Lehman Brothers, exposing its outrageous and often hilarious corporate culture.

Not what you might expect...
Revisado: 07-22-19
I bought this book expecting it to be the standard "Street" memoir. High Finance and debauchery all wrapped up in several hours of well read audio. What I got was a story that hit close to home and left me equally amazed at both Mr. Dillian's triumphs and struggles. Street Freak is a Wall Street memoir but it is also an amazingly deep, personal look into mental illness and the steps that must be taken to overcome it. Lehman Brothers fell but Jared Dillian continues to rise. I would highly recommend this book and I am thankful to now have it in my permanent library.

Ben Mezrich's 2009 best seller, The Accidental Billionaires, is the definitive account of Facebook's founding and the basis for the Academy Award-winning film The Social Network. Two of the story's iconic characters are Harvard students Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss: identical twins, Olympic rowers, and foils to Mark Zuckerberg. Bitcoin Billionaires is the story of the brothers’ redemption and revenge in the wake of their epic legal battle with Facebook.

Ben Mezrich Makes Anything Interesting!
Revisado: 05-27-19
I have admittedly read/listened to most things that Ben Mezrich has written, and once again I was not disappointed. Bitcoin Billionaires is well written and extremely well read by Will Damron.
Mezrich does an impeccable job of not just telling the story, but creating an immersive literary environment. High finance and board room antics may not make for "edge of your seat" reading, but with the way it is all written, you feel like a fly on the wall.
I read a lot of non-fiction and books like this one keep me coming back for more.

A Well-Balanced Memoir of Facts
Revisado: 05-12-19
Sorkin's account of the Wallstreet crisis of 2008 is superbly written. He does an excellent job of setting the scene, as it were, I found myself feeling like I was in the room at Treasury or the NY Fed. Sorkin does an excellent job of delivering the facts in a way that does not place blame, instead allowing the reader/listener to draw his/her own opinions. Was Paulsen right or was he wrong? Sorkin very aptly writes that history will be the true judge and I could not agree more. Definitely worth your time to listen/purchase.

A Good Story, Incredibly PC.
Revisado: 02-16-19
I have now read 7 or 8 Astronaut memoirs and as a whole I enjoy the candid nature of the stories. With this book, I felt as though the author was being guarded and incredibly politically correct in his writing. While there is nothing wrong with this, I personally did not get the experience that I was looking for. The author does a great job with the performance, and I genuinely enjoyed listening to him read his work.

Steven Levy's classic book traces the exploits of the computer revolution's original hackers - those brilliant and eccentric nerds from the late 1950s through the early '80s who took risks, bent the rules, and pushed the world in a radical new direction. With updated material from noteworthy hackers such as Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Richard Stallman, and Steve Wozniak, Hackers is a fascinating story that begins in early computer research labs and leads to the first home computers.

Hackers is a great story with a lot of important information that bogs down that great story as it gets started. Chamberlain is an excellent narrator and even though it is possible to get lost in the abyss of information his talented voice brings you back.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

The narrator is top notch. You'll never want to stop listening. The story is heartfelt with humor and the horrors of war mixed in. I listen to American Sniper at least once every 6 months, it really is that good.
