Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Historia
Bob Mortimer’s life was trundling along happily until suddenly in 2015 he was diagnosed with a heart condition that required immediate surgery and forced him to cancel an upcoming tour. The episode unnerved him but forced him to reflect on his life so far. This is the framework for his hilarious and moving memoir, And Away....

If you know Vic and Bob…
Revisado: 12-05-22
You know those rare books, where you want to keep listening, where you really can’t help but grow in your admiration of the author, want to get to the end, but know when you do, it’s going to be sad, that there isn’t more?
This really is one of those books.
Bob isn’t the greatest, most polished of orators and you do get the feeling that he is reading, especially at the beginning. But that’s really what this is all about. Bob being Robert and telling an endearing story about his struggles, his upbringing and his unexpected trajectory to becoming a ‘shooting star’.
This has everything in it, from early childhood, life, loves and losses, through to the Jarvis Cocker / Michael Jackson incident up to his heart issues and fishing.
I’ve always liked Bob. He always seemed so unassuming and real. This book only proves that his true life character of Robert isn’t any different.
A true aficionado of the humble pie and mash and lover of processed meats and pocket cheese.
Thanks for sharing Bob.
Wishing you many more fish, ‘on the end of the stick’!

Historia
In 1975, a gangly black 16-year-old from Dudley, decked out in floppy bow tie and Frank Spencer beret, appeared on our TV screens for the first time. So began the transformation from apprentice factory worker to future national treasure of Sir Lenny Henry. In his long-awaited autobiography, Lenny tells the extraordinary story of his early years and sudden rise to fame.

Note to anyone thinking of buying this…
Revisado: 11-17-22
I have been putting off buying this as Audible says it’s 1hr 22mins long - hopefully they read this and correct this.
It’s actually 7hrs and 22mins.
As for the book, it was enjoyable for a fan of Lenny Henry - it helped that I was the right age to remember him on the talent shows (just) and more so when he was on Tiswas. Oooooookkkkkkeeeeeyyyyyyy.
It also reminded me of growing up in the British Midlands too. Jumpers for goalposts down the park and white dog poo.
For Lenny, all to the cries of his mother of ‘H’integration!’.
The book starts with his parents back story, coming to the UK up to the idea of 3 of a kind through the painful times of the Black and White minstrels.
I’ll buy the follow on book and probably listen to this one again in a few months.

The Merry Band of Pirates offered the bad guys a ceasefire. We won’t mess with them, if they don’t mess with us. Easy, right? No. The aliens chose to do things the hard way. So, the Pirates are racing around the galaxy to clean up the threat to Earth. The infant UN Navy has their own mission with the Alien Legion: Get humanity some allies in the fight. And the Ethics & Compliance Office might have to do something...ethical. Unless they can find a way around it.

Book 13 in December but…
Revisado: 08-05-21
In the past, Alanson has said 14 is the end.
I so hope he changes his mind and just maybe takes a (short) rest.
Breakaway was as fun as ever, slowly building over the book to the usual course of twists and turns.
Without spoiling anything, I’ve really come to enjoy the beetle interaction - maybe a spin-off there.
Whatever. Thanks for the great entertainment. Just a shame I have to wait until December for the next installment. Then again, maybe it’s Skippy’s way of playing Santa for the Christmas holidays! Trust the AWESOMENESS!!!

Historia
In a world full to bursting with would-be heroes, Jim couldn't be less interested in saving the day. His fireballs fizzle. He's awfully grumpy. Plus, he's been dead for about 60 years. When a renegade necromancer wrenches him from eternal slumber and into a world gone terribly, bizarrely wrong, all Jim wants is to find a way to die properly, once and for all. On his side, he's got a few shambling corpses, an inept thief, and a powerful death wish. But he's up against tough odds....

Great first outing
Revisado: 10-04-20
I’m slowly working my way (mostly backwards) through the Croshaw collection on Audible.
I really enjoyed the freshness and great concept of the early part of the book. But unfortunately it did become a little cliched in the middle.
Still a great ride through the realms of Mog world.
Jim is a great character and would love to see him come back. If you like the later Galaxy books, you will not be disappointed with this.

Historia
In the early 1800s, Nicholas, Jessica, and Jon Santa attempt the first human trek to the North Pole and stumble upon an ancient race of people left over from the Ice Age. They are short, fat, and hairy. They slide across the ice on scaly soles and carve their homes in the ice that floats on the Arctic Ocean. The elven are adapted to life in the extreme cold. They are as wise as they are ancient. Their scientific advancements have yielded great inventions - time-stopping devices and gravitational spheres that build living snowmen and genetically-modified reindeer that leap great distances.

Listen to a sample before you buy
Revisado: 07-27-19
I found out about this book after my Dad, who is an avid SciFi reader and occasional fantasy reader suggested to me as an interesting and fun book he had just finished on his Kindle.
He said it had elements of Pratchett - who was one of my favorite authors. I had a credit that was about to expire, so I gave the audiobook a shot.
The likeness to Terry Pratchett is there, but in making something known (like pyramids, the phantom of the opera, computers) and putting a new spin on it. In this case the Santa Claus story we all grow up with. It doesn’t have Pratchett’s humor, but a fun and clever plot line. It’s entertaining.
What really gave me trouble with this audiobook and I’m not sure if it was written this way or just read this way, was the way the reading was delivered.
The reader... would place... pauses... in... every passage.... to the point where... I started to keep count... of how many words... were said between... each pause in the... delivery.
It averages out to be between 5 and 8 btw.
This was distracting at best and infuriating at times and really detracted from the enjoyment of the story.
Not having seen the original text, I don’t know if this is just s reflection of how the original book was written. Littered with unnecessary commas or if this is just something of the narrators style.
Either way, it became so annoying (to my ears at least) if I hadn’t ‘paid’ for it (used up a monthly credit), I would have just stopped listening and never returned to it.
I strongly advise that, if this book sounds like something you might enjoy, listen to a sample and decide if the narrators reading style is something that bothers you or not.
