Chonda has been a wonderful breath of fresh air for many years of my church life. More recently, trauma and drama devastated my family and church life. Is the word 'family' just a cruel joke from the devil? This book showed up just as I was giving up on this world altogether. It is an answer to prayer, honestly. Listening to the audio book felt like an angel from my delusional past swept into my shattered life broadcasting reality and refusing to let go of God-given joy. I loved every single word of it. It inspired me to use my remaining earthly days simply to share joy with truth. I'm starting the replay now. Thank you, Chonda. Huge hug.

Oh my goodness, I needed this on so many fronts. Beth has endured the pain of absorbing her abuser's sin
as well as the pain of social abuse for trying to stop the cycle for other victims. We protect our abusers because society will further punish us if we speak the truth. Through secret pain and severe public rejection, Beth's adherence to Jesus's teachings remains steadfast.

This book is a must if you are wondering why you have to hide your abuse from church people.

The audio version is important because it's Beth herself expressing her emotions.

This is a wonderful audio book. The narrator sounds like Tyler himself is speaking, not reading. The chapters are bite-sized, and they each end with reflection questions. Theoretically, you can stop the book and apply each chapter to your own life. And I wanted to. But I was enjoying the book too much to stop. Now that I'm finished, I'm re-reading it with the intention of tackling those questions. It's even better the second time around. Thank you, Tyler, for spreading so much peace and joy. You are a legend already.

Dislaimer: This book is not about Satan. It's about letting go of pain inflicted by others.
I heard about this book from the contents of another book, which touched on the struggle to forgive betrayal and abuse. Jesus has always been the model of this mandate to forgive, but it is hard to feel at all capable of that kind of strength, especially when abusers deny and don't care. Even the first few chapters of this book seemed to point fingers at the offended rather than the offender. So I put it down for over a year. But offenses kept accumulating from new sources and consuming me. So I started this book again. Bevere describes so many biblical and modern-day examples of offense and injury that I will never again feel singled out for misery. Finally, the last few chapters of the book showed point blank how to take action, get out of the pit, and stop the cycle. The first step is to face the sin of unforgiveness. Every ounce of Bevere's advice is backed by very clear scripture, such that it's not advice at all. For me, this book is a vivid, emotional display of the unchanging human condition, and God's unchanging instructions to honor him through obedience. It walked me right through my pain and powerlessness, on to the always available platform of truly handing it over to God

Every engaged and married person should read this. if you ever thought God's way was obsolete, read this book. If you can't figure out how to save your marriage, read this book. Better yet, do a Bible study group with it.
