Stellar narration of spirited poems

The poems themselves are very repetitive and are not to be put under scrutiny in terms of content. They are filled with wide-eyed wonder that disregards constructive analysis and criticism. However, I enjoyed listening to them as I would enjoy listening to a spirited sermon intended to foster faith and hope, or an eloquent politician's speech after they've just won an election. Did I agree with everything said? No, not at all. I couldn't even keep my focus, often drifting off in my own land of dreams. But the spirit of celebration and the tone of unquenchable hope are both infectious, and infectious joy is what I welcome on dreary and grey winter days like this one. And the poems are truly brought to life by Edoardo Ballerini. His narration is well articulated, nicely paced, and dignified, yet full of emotion.

One of the stories that shows how pain and loss can be the constant companions even of highly prolific, bright, and inspiring people. Having read only 'Anne of Green Gables', I gained a lot of context that will enrich my future encounters with L. M. Montgomery's work.

Regarding the narration, at first it was difficult for me to get used to the narrator's intonations, which often dropped when I would have expected them to rise, making it sound somewhat like AI-generated speech. However, I liked her interpretation of Maud's voice, soft and sad, and Ewan's Scottish tones, and her articulation was very clear.

It took some time for me to truly get into the story, but once I did, I liked it more and more! The historical setting was very believable, and, while I felt everything had been thoroughly researched, the descriptions and explanations didn't bore or overwhelm me. The plot was captivating, as were the diverse characters. And I loved Lameece Isaq's approach to them, especially the confident and sarcastic Amina, but also the nasal, no-nonsense and high-pitched Dalila, the seductive, husky drawl of Raksh, and the sweet Tinbu, among others.

An insightful look into good and evil

The first six chapters for me seemed kind of meh (overall, I liked the 'good' better than the 'evil') , but, starting from Chapter 7, it got quite fascinating for me, because the ideas seemed deeper, the definitions clearer, and there were more terms describing psychological or medical phenomena.
I personally needed some time to get used to the narrator's accent. At first, it distracted me; however, the professor speaks very clearly, and it is easy to follow.
It is more like a lecture course (prof. Sanderson herself calls the chapters lectures) rather than an audiobook, and there are some little stutters here and there, so if you expect a perfect mixed and mastered audiobook experience, this one is not for you.
All in all, it was an insightful listening experience, and I think it gave me some tools that will help me be a better person, especially in times of emergency.
