Historia
Confession is a crucial ritual of the Catholic Church, offering absolution of sin and spiritual guidance to the faithful. Yet this ancient sacrament has also been a source of controversy and oppression, culminating, as prize-winning historian John Cornwell reveals in The Dark Box, with the scandal of clerical child abuse. Drawing on extensive historical sources, contemporary reports, and first-hand accounts, Cornwell takes a hard look at the long evolution of confession.

Good history of the Sacrament of Confession
Revisado: 09-28-23
I was actually kicked off a Catholic Reddit because I recommended this book. Hated by Traditionalist Catholics who are afraid of shining a light onto their own history, it is a good journey into the history and practice of Confession in the Catholic Church.
The narrator was clear and enunciated well. He was very understandable.

Historia
Reading Revelation Responsibly is for those who are confused by, afraid of, and or preoccupied with the book of Revelation. In rescuing the Apocalypse from those who either completely misinterpret it or completely ignore it, Michael Gorman has given us both a guide to reading Revelation in a responsible way and a theological engagement with the text itself. He takes interpreting the book as a serious and sacred responsibility, believing how one reads, teaches, and preaches Revelation can have a powerful impact on one's own—and other people's—well-being.

It's an excellent book and an antidote to bondage to Dispensationalism. I'm definitely going to have to give it a second listen to completely plumb it's depths.

An excellent mystery that kept me guessing until the end. I enjoyed it. A classic style mystery with plot twists and turns complete with the obligatory gathering of suspects and unveiling of the culpret in the end. My favorite kind.

During a train trip from Chicago to Texas in the late 1940s, A.W. Tozer began to write The Pursuit of God. He wrote all night, and when the train arrived at his destination, the rough draft was done. The depth of this book has made it an enduring favorite.

Very good reminder of what it means to be a believer and follow and devote oneself to Christ. It needs to be listened to more than once.

Historia
What does it mean to "think Orthodox"? What are the unspoken and unexplored premises and presumptions underlying what Christians believe? Orthodox Christianity is based on preserving the mind of the early Church, its phronema. Dr. Jeannie Constantinou brings her more than 40 years' experience as a professor, Bible teacher, and speaker to bear in explaining what the Orthodox phronema is, how it can be acquired, and how that phronema is expressed in true Orthodox theology.

Preachy and repetitive
Revisado: 12-25-21
I tried to like it and the author's reading was clear and enunciated enough but the book was preachy and repetitive. It seemed like she kept looking for new words to say the same things, after a while I started to figure I'd heard everything she had to say and gave up.

Historia
The life of Elijah has gripped the thought and imagination of preachers and writers in all ages. His sudden appearance out of complete obscurity, his dramatic interventions in the national history of Israel, his miracles, his departure from the earth in a chariot of fire all serve to that end. He comes in like a tempest, who went out like a whirlwind. The first we hear from him is an oath and a threat. It is fitting that the lessons which may be drawn from Elijah's ministry should be presented afresh to our generation.

Some good points marred by a hatred of "Romanists" making the judgement and impartial interpretation of the author in his interpretation of the scriptures suspect.

Dr. Pitre uses the Old Testament and ancient Judaism to unlock how the Bible itself teaches that Mary is in fact the new Eve, the Mother of God, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, and the new Ark of the Covenant.
