Very original series with the best narrator in the business. I wasn't sure what to expect, but knew it had to be great because of the team of Robinson and Bray putting this out. It did lean towards the YA genre at the beginning, but I feel like it made a leap towards the end of book one to the science fiction/fantasy world where it stays.

Solomon is unlike any other character from any other book that I have ever read. He can be soft, shy and awkward in one form and fierce, unrelenting and feared in the other. Seeing Solomon try to fight his natural instincts and how he struggles being caught between two worlds is amazing. The author could not have written this any better and even though I already have four other books written by Jeremy Robinson, I will definitely put the rest of his at the top of my wish list/next to read.

I have watched the online videos that Diamond Dallas Page has and of course, the Arthur video that I never ever get tired of seeing, but I really didn't know much about DDP himself. The book has many success stories of both wrestlers and everyday people and the background on DDP. I wasn't a huge wrestling fan (and you don't have to be either to enjoy his story), but had definitely heard of him and most of the wrestlers that he has worked with. Loved hearing stories about Dusty Rhodes and some of the others in here, but genuinely found myself really interested in the whole story of DDP and how he went from a football player and hockey player to having to switch to basketball because of an injury and then working so hard that he played in college. You can tell that he does everything 90% (read and you will understand) and there isn't much that could stop him from going where he wants to go.

I love how passionate DDP is about his program and especially about helping people. He even emailed people who bought his program and wasn't just interested in making the money, but was genuinely interested in helping them. I am sold on him and his program and just started it this week. I don't need to lose hundreds of pounds, but just turned 50 and could lose 25-30 pounds to feel better and definitely could reap the benefits of both yoga and additional exercise. My wife is doing this with me as well and we completed the Diamond Dozen which goes over most of the positions that will be used and we were both not only impressed, but also could feel the workout in our arms and legs and this wasn't even a workout, just a 20 minute video on learning the positions. I can't wait to see where I am after a few months of doing this.

Any additional comments?

I read this book because R.C. Bray is the narrator and for no other reason and I am glad that I did. This is not my typical type of book, so I am glad that I ventured out a little from my listening comfort zone. This book isn't a murder mystery or who done it or anything other than a story being told to you and I liked that. It is very dark and you will really dislike some of the characters, but that made it even better. Instead of rooting for the hero like in most books, I found myself rooting against the socialites. The author did a fantastic job at describing each person and each scene and painted me a picture in my head of how the city looked and I could actually imagine watching this instead of just listening. Few authors have done this for me. The story itself wasn't the greatest that I have ever heard, but his style along with the narration made this a very easy listen that kept me interested from start to finish. The story had no real hero and no real twists, but it is very entertaining and maybe it's just the comfort of listening to R.C. Bray, but it seemed much more than that. You will have to listen to understand or maybe it's me that is just understanding, but I will look for more books like this when I want to take a break from my normal science fiction/fantasy books.

I have loved the recent Science Fiction audiobooks over the past year or so and several have become some of my favorites of all time. This book ranks barely outside of my top five, but just barely. Mountain Man series (the best credit I have ever spent for 27+ hours of Gus versus the zombies) is tops by far, Expeditionary Force is second (I could listen to anything read by R.C. Bray and am not sure why everyone just doesn't use him), Ready Player One closely follows and this book had me reminiscing about RP1 because of Wheaton, We are Legion (We are Bob) is fourth with The Wrong Unit rounding out the top five. This book was so different from all of my favorites, but it had the same heart and Will Wheaton crushed it. I am happy that I took a chance (and a credit) on this one. John Scalzi never disappoints.

The fun and excitement picks up where book one ends. Joe, Skippy and R.C. make this another hilarious adventure. Do not hesitate to get this book after listening/reading the first one. It was pretty close between this series and the Bobiverse after reading book one of each, but this is now hands down my favorite.

Loved the book from start to finish. I thought I was a true geek until reading this. Although I knew almost all of the games and television shows mentioned, I didn't know much about many of them. It was fun to walk through Zork in the book and to be reminded of many games that I had not thought about in years. I am definitely going to dust off some of my old games and play after listening to this. I can't wait for the movie.

Any additional comments?

Maybe it is just me, but almost every part of this book felt like it was an abridged edition. Just when a new character was introduced or when the story headed in a new direction, I felt it quickly moved on when it should have taken much more time to develop. Personally I think that the story could have been twice as long. I would have enjoyed knowing a lot more about Clarisse, Faber and Granger's group. I enjoyed the book, but really felt shorted and craved more filler.

Tim Robbins nailed the narration and really saved the experience of the book for me. I could not really imagine anyone doing the book more justice than he did.

Wanted to find something fun and interesting to listen to with the boys on our daily commute to and from school. The narrator did an excellent job at making even the not so interesting facts or stories sound pretty interesting. Wish it had been longer, but it gave us plenty of entertainment. We all learned a little and it gave us plenty to discuss together and it gave them a lot to share with their older brothers and made them feel good that they knew something that their brothers did not.

Liked it well enough to invest a credit for the Mountain Man Omnibus, which I loved. This book was a great introduction to Gus and his world. No spoilers, but there are a few parts of this book that I would love to see come alive in a movie or TV show. He vividly brought things that I have never read or watched in a zombie book or show. When the creepy things come crawling around the corner to get Gus, you will know what I am talking about.

Where does The Mountain Man Omnibus rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

At the very top!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mountain Man Omnibus?

Way too many to pick one. This is nearly 28 hours of listening for only one credit and I never felt bored or uninterested like I do with some books. I bought book four (Well Fed 17 hours) long before I finished this and it was just as good if not better.

Which character – as performed by R. C. Bray – was your favorite?

Gus, of course. He is the main character and by the time you are halfway through the first book, you feel like you know him. R.C. Bray is phenomenal and the perfect choice for this series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were several moving moments in the books and they were done perfectly. Keith C. Blackmore did a great job of sharing the characters emotions and I felt every single one of them. I laughed in parts, shared in the sadness of Gus at times and still feel very invested even at the end of the series.

Any additional comments?

Like the headline says and I truly mean it, this is the best credit that I have ever spent. This is my first zombie book besides The Walking Dead comics, and I feel like I will be let down by anything else in this genre that I read. I am in the middle of another zombie apocalypse book now and am struggling to make it through.

I have never been a listener with that much extra time. We have four boys and they take up nearly all of our time and energy, but I found myself making the time to listen to this series. I would listen for the 15 minutes in the truck after dropping one of the boys off for school, I would listen while I lay in bed with headphones when I should be sleeping and even bought a waterproof bluetooth speaker to listen in the shower. This series is that great. I was genuinely upset when I finished the last book because I didn't want it to end. I felt the same kind of way that I did when Breaking Bad finished. I will miss Gus and Scott in a similar way that I still miss Walt and Jesse.
