I truly enjoyed this clever, witty, and engaging story. The characters are clearly fleshed out, and easy to see in your mind's eye. The pacing of the book is just right for most of the story, especially after the mystery begins in earnest. The narrator does an excellent job of making sure each character's voice sounds different enough to distinguish. At times, I was a bit lost in the plot, but it is somewhat easy to catch up. The storyline is balanced, so that it doesn't seem too brainy nor too easily solved. I am ready for another adventure!

This was literally the very first Podcast I downloaded. I generally read about true crime or how criminals are caught by unusual circumstances. This time, I decided to listen to true crimes, heists in particular, in which the true story is told from BOTH the convicted and the authorities! It was fascinating to hear the crime unfold, and how long it took for each crime to be solved. I truly enjoyed listening to Michael Caine and the participants involved.

This was a good addition to the series. I liked having Diotema take part of the storyline while Nicolaus took the other. The unique blend of perspectives from each character is a nice touch. I am looking forward to the next mystery.

Another Crime Adventure for Nicolaus

I continue to enjoy the soothing voice of the Narrator. The character Nicolaus at times sarcastically pokes fun at the 'religious rites' of the Roman era in which he lives. This time, we are let into the Arena, as it were, of the Theater Actor. Although I enjoyed the variety of characters, and Nicolaus playing the new role of husband, getting to know his new family, and solving crimes with his new wife, my ear tired of the amount of male characters. Sometimes, the voices were so subtle, that I lost track of who was speaking. Maybe at this point, the Author should think about adding other voice actors to his stories. At least three to four chapters were used to explain how the principal characters were involved in the crime. I admit that I grew fatigued at the summation. However, overall, I would still listen to the next installment.

I absolutely love the adventures of Nicolaus and Diotema. This time, the story is set in the court of Themistocles. The Author always puts humor into the "historical" setting, and there is much more sarcasm and humor to go around. It was great fun trying to figure out who was involved in the sordid mystery.

This was a good immersive story. Most of the story unfolds in Scotland, and although the accent at times is distracting, the mystery more than makes up for that. The Author does a very good job of voicing all of the characters, male and female. Although I became a little lost in the explanation of the reason for the crime, as a whole, I was constantly guessing the identity of the killer, and was satisfied with the finale. Considering the compelling details of the surroundings and character development, I will definitely listen to another Lestrade Adventure.

I really liked this Audio Book. I believe the Narrator's voice was soothing and feminine for the Female characters, yet authoritative and strong for the Male characters. The story was set in ancient Rome during the height of the Arena, in which men and animals alike met as foes. There were stories running concurrently: A love story, the bonding of two brothers, and the lives of slaves and royals. I thought the three stories were blended nicely, giving the listener some insights into ancient Roman life.

I enjoyed this murder mystery set in the times of the ancient Greek Olympics. The story was detailed, and the details of the time period seemed well researched. I was impressed at the Narrator's ability to voice so many characters. There were several female characters, and many male voices, which at times made it hard to follow which character was speaking. But overall, I enjoyed the intrigue, as well as the dark humor.

The Narrator is a perfect match for this book. The tonal quality of the reading was very pleasant, and the storytelling very engaging. I could see the the characters as described by a young Cleopatra who was growing into her eventual role as Queen of Egypt. The events she witnesses shape her, perhaps playing a role in how she will rule over the people of Egypt. The details regarding the supposed personalities of her family, retinue, and political rivals felt true and convincing.
