Wow… at over 20+ hours of listening (600+ pages of reading) this one takes up some time. I didn't know that it was YA going in but found myself caught up quickly in the author's storytelling and characters. Shannon and Johnny are a very sweet couple who face some pretty grave circumstances & challenges together on their path to HEA. Given this was such a long one I switched back and forth between listening and reading. And while I think the narration definitely enhanced the story and made it all the more engaging, I have to take issue with several areas where the whisper-sync didn't match up. Plus the narration is so long it has to be downloaded in multiple parts making it harder to sync with the reading in the second half where it starts at chapter forty-something. All things considered though it was worth the time. The narration was excellent!

the first four chapters of this book seem to be recorded out if sequence. once I got ahold of a written copy of the story for clarification it made much more sense. &

what's not to love about Maverick & Clover?? this second installment in the next gen of Helena Hunting's hockey universe was even more good stuff than the first. add in an excellent narration and this is the stuff book boyfriends are made of.

Ridge and Grace were fun characters. There was also a group of supporting characters that I really liked. Overall, this was a fun, light-hearted listen. Where I struggled at times was with the inconsistencies in the author's voice. It made some of the dialogue awkward and pulled me out of the moment at times. As for the narration, Tor Thom's voice is one of my favorites. He could probably make listening to someone read the dictionary enjoyable. Heather Costa was a new to me voice and I enjoyed listening to her narration as well.

A solid addition to the Masters & Mercenaries collection. Ryan West did an excellent job narrating as usual. It was so great to hear Boomer's story after having glimpses of his character on the periphery of so many other M&M characters' stories. He's such a sweetheart and I feel like he got an appropriately sweet HEA.

Beware the CLIFFHANGER!!
It's a good beginning of a story but this first book ends right in the midst of the drama/action. That is a Huge irritant for me personally as a reader. So much so that I won't even start most books that I know end in a cliffhanger (with very few exceptions). If the next book in this duet wasn't immediately available I wouldn't even have looked twice. But since I had the opportunity to borrow both titles with Kindle unlimited read & listen I wasn't too miffed not to have had any warning. If you're a K. Bromberg fan, use your credits at your own risk but know that it'll take 2 to get the full story.

short & sweet!

I'm not typically a fan of novellas, especially in audio (the credits don't pan out). But seeing that this one is being previewed in the newer "included" format before the Kindle release; I'm a Penny Reid fan; and I had to kill a couple hours today; I decided to check this one out. Reid does a great job here of fleshing out a fully detailed story between Alice & Milo that manages to be engaging, entertaining and emotional in spite of it's short length. The telling is further enhanced by excellent narration by Joe Arden (whom I've been a long time fan of now) and Fiona Fischer. It was 1½hrs well spent. 😊

CLIFFHANGER warning ⚠️

Ok so, I'll start by saying that what there is of the story is well done. The characters are intriguing and their story sucked me right in. However, this is not a duet where you get two complete stories with linked storylines. Instead, this first one just end abruptly. For that reason it felt more like a serial than a duet. In cases like these I'd much rather the author give me ONE longer, COMPLETE story in one book rather than leave me hanging so abruptly. It's a sure fire way to keep me from buying the next book solely on principal. So that being said, if you want the whole story it'll cost you 2 CREDITS.

Beware the cliffhanger!!

Great story. Just be prepared, it ends on a cliffhanger. I always prefer to know to know these things going in so I'm less frustrated at the end. At least the whole trilogy is available. Happy reading! 🙂

Cute, quick & steamy...

This is one of those listens for when your brain just needs some romance cotton candy. You go in ready to just suspend disbelief, soak up the classic romance tropes and enjoy all the feels.
