I enjoyed every minute of Sticks and Stones. Most AT books are written by thru-hikers, which is an unlikely dream for many of us. Reading about the success of Diane Harsha's multi-year section hike of the AT, which was not easy-but achievable with persistence, gives me the confidence I can do this too. I know the AT well through books and my own adventures, yet Diane brought new perspectives I appreciated as a middle aged, career woman, wife and mother.

It is not often that non-celebrity authors can pull off reading their own book, but Diane Harsha did a terrific job. It would have been tough for a narrator to capture Diane's spirit. The next time I take on a section of the trail I will look forward to revisiting the relevant section of the book.

On a daily basis my husband is listening to me talk about this book. To point that he is rolling his eyes as he sees another tidbit of fascinating information about to come out of my mouth. This book is about sleep, but that cannot be separated from Walker's research teaching us even more about our brains and or bodies. Reading about night owls (me) was so vindicating that it actually brought me to tears. A visceral reaction that I did not see coming. I wish I had known all of this information thirty years ago, but better late than never. I know many people that instinctually or through common sense already make great sleep choices, but I have never been one of those people. I'm already living my life differently and looking forward to better health and brain function because of it. I've gone back and forth between the paper back (which I bought in the UK a couple of months ago) and the audio book. Not only do I recommend this book, but I'm buying it for everyone I love.....turns out to be a long list.

For the devotees of Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein, you will listen intently as you soak up the stories behind the shows of these musical theater legends. Their rare ability to make magic over and over again has put them on a pedestal above the rest, but it doesn’t mean their lives were perfect or their achievements came without struggle. Todd Purdum’s research reveals extensive insight into the collaborative writing process, Oscar and Dick’s creative lives before and after their work together, and the evolution of their shows and well-loved songs. Purdum even indulges us with a few of the not-so wonderful lyrics that fortunately did not make the final draft.

For those of us who just love a good musical, Something Wonderful is a delightful experience enhanced by the author as the narrator. Many of my favorite audio books have been read by the book’s author (and a few have been ruined). So fortunate are we as listeners that this gifted writer was blessed with a fantastic voice for narration.

The King and I is playing in my home in the background as I write this and I will be spending the next few weeks revisiting the music of Rogers and Hammerstein until I can make to the theater!

I became addicted to listening and was sad when it was finished. Loved getting the back story to so many moments we lived out as fans. For me, audio books about baseball are an extension of listening to baseball on radio. Faithful was my first. Listening to Vin is heaven, listening to Molly's book is close.
