Great thriller. One of the more gut-wrenching Gamache stories. Loved the weaving of past and present into the characters and crimes. One of my favorite things Louise does in these books is allow the characters to evolve in an imperfect, but loveable way. Keep them coming Louise!! ❤️

Favorite of 2021!

Most beautifully written book I’ve read in a long time. I love Hamlet and it was a pleasure to fill in and imagine the backstory of Shakespeare and his family. Such a treat to listen to this book! Excellent performance by the reader. Her voice is buttery and soft, but clear and easy to understand. Overall, a worthy use of your precious time!

One of my favorite books. The reader is phenomenal. The writing style has a poetic rhythm and the readers voice is rich and fulfilling. Such a wonderful read. I hope Tom Hanks will do it justice!!

Great background on two beloved authors

Great listen for those interested in the lives and writings of Lewis and Tolkien. Reader had a few common mispronounced French words others commented on, but not that big of a deal, and certainly not a good reason to miss this book.

Deeply sad

A deeply sad novel about the horrors of Leningrad during its WWII siege. I would recommend first listening to “Symphony for the City of the Dead” to have a more full understanding of the siege and the timeline. This book fits beautifully into its historic context. An enjoyable, but sad story.

An overlooked aspect of WWII

Such a fascinating story about the war that I had only a vague knowledge of before listening. I am a lover of art history, and lover of Italy, so this book was right down my alley. If you’ve been to Italy and enjoyed the ancient sites and/or countryside (especially Tuscany and South Tyrol) and artwork housed there, you may find yourself sincerely grateful to these rather ordinary men who risked much for our benefit. I had no idea the extent to which the Germans had defiled and destroyed historic Italy. I always assumed that the ally relationship had protected it somewhat. This book details the complicated relationships between unstable dictators, and the dangerous work of the Allies in liberating Italy. Overall, I found this book really interesting and worthy of my time to learn more about this subject.
