Historia
Scandal, shock, and rivalry all have negative connotations, don't they? They can be catastrophic to businesses and individual careers. A whiff of scandal can turn a politician into a smoking ruin. But these potentially disastrous "negatives" can and have spurred the world of fine art to new heights. A look at the history of art tells us that rivalries have, in fact, not only benefited the course of art, from ancient times to the present, but have also helped shape our narrative of art, lending it a sense of drama that it might otherwise lack.

Charney Brought the Art World to Life
Revisado: 07-07-24
This was a really fun jaunt through art history. Charney brought all kinds of things into a discussion and made art, fun and interesting, more exciting than I had realized fine art could be and gave some great explanations of newer art. I’m going to go back now and listen to this again!

Historia
How is a handmade fabric helping save an ancient forest? Why is a famous fabric pattern from India best known by the name of a Scottish town? How is a Chinese dragon robe a diagram of the whole universe? What is the difference between how the Greek Fates and the Viking Norns used threads to tell our destiny? In Fabric, bestselling author Victoria Finlay spins us round the globe, weaving stories of our relationship with cloth and asking how and why people through the ages have made it, worn it, invented it, and made symbols out of it. And sometimes why they have fought for it.

Thrilling!!
Revisado: 04-15-24
If you enjoy finding out how things work and fun stories about “why” and art history OR just any two of these, this is an enthralling book. The narrator is lovely. The author and her family are poetry. I will enjoy and appreciate fabric more. Victoria Finlay makes my world bigger, brighter, and more colorful. Thank you Victoria!! Now I am off to get her next book…..

Historia
1992. All across the United States respectable, upstanding citizens are showing up dead. These deaths could be accidents, and they don’t appear to be connected—until a fatal fall from a high-floor window attracts some unexpected attention. That attention comes from the secretary of defense. All of a sudden he wants an interagency task force to investigate. And he wants Jack Reacher as the army’s representative. If Reacher gets a result, great. If not, he’s a convenient fall guy.

Lee Child is great, Andrew a great addition
Revisado: 03-11-24
Jack reacher is wonderful. I was prepared to be a little disappointed by Andrew taking over, but I found that the books are even better. I like that jack reacher has suddenly become a bit more technically literate. Characters are still great. Reacher is a bit less mysterious. I liked particularly that this book was while he was still in the army. He’s a bit more mild, this book makes clear where he came from and it is sad that he is not still there. I highly recommend both Lee Child and the books with Leigh and Andrew Child.

Historia
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

Truly Fabulous!
Revisado: 03-19-23
I LOVED the Cali character—she’s a beautiful, fun character who lives in her own 12 year’s old world. The book is gripping, the other characters are great too. Particularly the old veterinarian. Now I’m going back to listen to it again. 🙂 Narrator also fabulous.

Unexpected Fabulousness
Revisado: 08-01-22
All three of these stories were Karin slaughter at her best. She makes excellent use of the short story format and the twists that go through each of the stories, particularly at the end are amazing. The first one had me falling all over the floor and rolling around. All three of them were funny and horror ended. So glad I got these. If you enjoy Karin slaughter you will enjoy the stories very much. They are much funnier than her usual.

In Lisa Gardner's second short story, after the New York Times bestseller The 7th Month, Detective D.D. Warren takes on her most intimidating assignment yet: a fifty-minute class meant to educate a horde of bloodthirsty thriller writers on the ways of actual police work. Yet sometimes life really does imitate fiction, as D.D. takes the writers through the reality of one of her most twisted cases - a case that involves a seedy motel room, drugs, prostitution...and a severed leg.
