Historia
Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

But the book was awful. I get it, you’re southern and have southern hospitality. I have so many questions and honestly I don’t even care for the answer

Historia
Meet Harry, aspiring tech entrepreneur. He’s a would-be Steve Jobs trapped in a cubicle gig at an angel investor firm, so close and yet so far from his dreams. His marriage is foundering, his career is stalled out, and all he wants is to create an app like Uber, or Tinder, something to make real change in the world, and change his own life forever. Now meet Peter, a deeply troubled computer genius who lives in a basement apartment, chugging red wine, nursing old grudges and writing code. When Harry meets Peter, it’s both of their lives that will change, when they invent an app for murder.

The idea was interesting but the writing wasn’t great and the narration annoyed me. The ending wasn’t bad though and it was a quick listen

This Psych 312 assignment just might send me off the deep end. Determining whether love at first sight really exists with Robbie Moravian as my project partner of all people? He’s the sappiest man alive, so upbeat I could scream, and clearly rooting for happy endings at every turn. How does he not learn from experience considering our own meet-cute last semester almost got us expelled? But we both need to pass this course to graduate. So we’re interviewing five random couples about their meet-cutes and relationships and spending all this time together. Which is certainly...educational.

DNF
Revisado: 11-09-23
Wow. That was a record for DNF’ing a book! The writing style isn’t great, the narration for the guy gave me the creeps and the general behaviour between the two characters was just weird. I’m sure the surprising twist at the end maybe adds something to it. The man murdered his ex, or keeps her in the basement. Or the girl murders her “clients” and keeps trophies in her work bag, or they’re both murderers and fall in love. Or the horses are murderers - that would definitely be a twist 😂

Historia
Aaron Fortin is new in town. He drives a brand-new Acura—a gift from his parents for uprooting him in the middle of senior year. Showing up on his first day at the local public school in that nice of a car? He knows he’ll never blend in, and he doesn’t care to try. The car, the new-kid mystique, he can use all that.... Crystal Giordano carpools to the same school in her friend Trevor’s beat-up van. In the van along with Crystal and Trevor are Paul, Harmony, and Gayle. Crystal’s technically part of their misfit group, but most of the time, she feels like she’s the only one who doesn’t fit.

I was genuinely surprised at how good this was. This story had me hooked with the starting chapter and kept me engaged throughout. Happy to hear it wasn’t another Ripley Syndrome story (You is great, don’t get me wrong!).

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing. But it's the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute take a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant Nobel-prize-nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Revisado: 09-14-23
Didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. While things are different today than in Elizabeth Zotts time there are still things and situations written here that I’ve personally experienced so it’s filled me with simultaneous rage and appreciate. Also, upon finishing I’ve learned that there’s a show coming out soon!

-I meant to give it 3 stars, not 2-
It was a well thought out story and I always appreciate a heroine but it wasn't gripping.
However, I do appreciate the authors note at the end. I think this should be a standard for historical fiction. Only because I always wonder if x,y, is true about certain things and this author obviously did the work.
I also felt like information was reiterated sooo much. The characters would get a pivotal bit of info and you would hear about it like 6 more times, I just felt the repeats were unnecessary.

Historia
When glamorous socialite Noemí Taboada receives a frantic letter from her newlywed cousin begging to be rescued from a mysterious doom, it's clear something is desperately amiss. Catalina has always had a flair for the dramatic, but her claims that her husband is poisoning her and her visions of restless ghosts seem remarkable, even for her. Noemí's chic gowns and perfect lipstick are more suited to cocktail parties than amateur sleuthing, but she immediately heads to High Place, a remote mansion in the Mexican countryside, determined to discover what is so affecting her cousin.

Ok story, monotone narrator
Revisado: 12-02-21
The story was super predictable and I guessed what it was at the first mention of it early on in the book. Pretty twisted family but wasn’t incredibly inspiring. The narrator said the Mexican names and words beautifully but everything else was incredibly bland.
