While there were some moments my heart ached for Wu Zetian to find some flicker of peace, this book delivered and THEN SOME. I can’t wait for the next book, this is truly an epic for the ages.

Historia
The boys of Huaxia dream of pairing up with girls to pilot Chrysalises, giant transforming robots that can battle the mecha aliens that lurk beyond the Great Wall. It doesn't matter that the girls often die from the mental strain. When 18-year-old Zetian offers herself up as a concubine-pilot, it's to assassinate the ace male pilot responsible for her sister's death. But she gets her vengeance in a way nobody expected—she kills him through the psychic link between pilots and emerges from the cockpit unscathed.

Stunning Futuristic Fantasy
Revisado: 09-18-23
Xiran Jay Zhao has knocked it out of the park with this epic fantasy tale.
A charming mix of battle, societal navigation, and intrigue- Iron Widow drags the reader into its world in moments. Zhao tackles age old social justice issues and patriarchal systems so seamlessly- and captures feminine rage in a way that has you cheering as the FMC meets or her revenge. I cannot wait for Heavenly Tyrant.

Historia
The remote island of Masquapaug has not seen a dragon in many generations—until fifteen-year-old Anequs finds a dragon’s egg and bonds with its hatchling. Her people are delighted, for all remember the tales of the days when dragons lived among them and danced away the storms of autumn, enabling the people to thrive. To them, Anequs is revered as Nampeshiweisit—a person in a unique relationship with a dragon.

One of my top reads this year
Revisado: 08-07-23
This book blew me away. I loved this book in ways I can’t even express! The magic/scientific system is truly inspired, the journey Anequs takes through these pages is both terrible and wonderful, and the discoveries!!!!! made about her people’s relationship to dragons! Aaah. I wanted to cheer in the middle of the gym. Kasaqua and Coppers interactions are adorable and endearing, and I cannot wait to see what develops with Theod and Liberty and Anequs. The in depth look into the perspective of the indigenous peoples within the book will make you cry and rage, and I won’t lie and say there’s not some small part of me that wishes they could all join with their cousins in the West and take back their freedoms. The relationships between Anequs and her family are so rich and well done I found myself loving them as much as I did characters who had much more page time. Overall, Moniquill Blackgoose had done a remarkable job of weaving a tale I want to read again and again, and will be anxiously awaiting the second installment of!

I am in love with this book! I’m always on board for a strong FMC but Ligia has taken the woman in charge to the next level! From our FMC to the Mosa- the amount of powerful feminine energy in this book is off the charts and I am HERE FOR IT. The story is amazing, well crafted, and the plot twists!!! Ooooh if I don’t get book two soon I’m gonna cry.

Historia
When Viola Carroll was presumed dead at Waterloo she took the opportunity to live, at last, as herself. But freedom does not come without a price, and Viola paid for hers with the loss of her wealth, her title, and her closest companion, Justin de Vere, the Duke of Gracewood. Only when their families reconnect, years after the war, does Viola learn how deep that loss truly was. Shattered without her, Gracewood has retreated so far into grief that Viola barely recognizes her old friend in the lonely, brooding man he has become.

Historia
Welcome to Bennet House, the only all-women’s dorm at prestigious Longbourn University, home to three close friends who are about to have an eventful year. EJ is an ambitious Black engineering student. Her best friend, Jamie, is a newly out trans woman studying French and theatre. Tessa is a Filipina astronomy major with guy trouble. For them, Bennet House is more than a residence - it’s an oasis of feminism, femininity, and enlightenment. But as great as Longbourn is for academics, EJ knows it can be a wretched place to find love.

I really enjoyed this story and the representation was perfection. It was cute without pandering, the women were truly feminists who did not compromise- even for love- FINALLY. I loved that trope getting flipped on its head!

Historia
1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he’ll enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation—also known as Babel. Babel is the world's center for translation and, more importantly, magic. Silver working—the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation using enchanted silver bars—has made the British unparalleled in power, as its knowledge serves the Empire’s quest for colonization.

What a book!
Revisado: 03-03-23
I’ll need to sit with this book hangover for a bit. Kuang is a phenomenal story teller who brought this world to vibrant, beautiful life and I loved every second of it. Even the ones I hated. The universal truths in this novel are heartbreaking and stripped bare for the reader, which is dramatic and necessary to the story. This should be required reading for advanced students in my humble opinion. Fiction can be such a wonderful receptacle for truth.

Historia
Emery Thompson hates Calvin Chamberlain. From the way he acts like he’s better than everyone to the way he moves through the world thinking his podcast is the cream of the crop, every little thing about the man gets to him. Even that dashing, oh-so-confident smile. He’d rather be caught dead than be around the man any longer than necessary—or admit that last part out loud.

Historia
Never in my 40 years did I think my new normal would be gluing body parts back onto ghosts and hosting a houseful of dead squatters. Thank God for superglue and a strong stomach. Never thought I’d date the Grim Reaper and that I would be the one to blow it. I mean, how idiotic does one have to be to get dumped by a dude who lives in Hell? Going about business as usual is not usual in any way. No one is who they seem to be...and to be honest, neither am I. What I’d known to be true has turned out to be myth. The angels are frightening, and the demons are hot.

The narrator was a bit……off. When the dialogue tag says “with no emotion” to a line she just filled with it, or “with such sadness” and she delivers it vehemently….it was frustrating. Not horrid but. Definitely noticeable.
