Historia
Dakota Sloane, a tough-as-nails former foster kid, has spent her life running from the past. Logan Garcia, a man haunted by secrets, has only one goal: to drink himself into oblivion. They're two strangers in a bar - until the news reports nuclear bombs in New York City and Washington, D.C. Fearing Miami may be next, Dakota's first thought is to grab her little sister - still trapped in the system - and get the hell out of Dodge. Then the world explodes. Logan and Dakota have less than 10 minutes to seek shelter before the lethal cloud of fallout descends.

Slow paced and nobody to relate to
Revisado: 01-27-21
I grew up in Miami so I was very interested in this story because of its location. I also enjoy this type of end of the world scenario book. The problem with this is that there were characters that didn't make sense together and nobody for the average person to relate to.
None of the characters were well developed. They kept hinting at a mysterious backstory for every main character that never got a payoff. You know almost nothing more about the characters at the beginning of the story vs the end. There is not enough action to justify the slow parts. The slow parts don't develop into something better later.
They spend two days of the book in one room. While, you could argue, that was the smartest thing to do for the situation (and you might be right) it makes for terrible story telling.
The book was clearly designed for the "prepper" community. That is fine, I have read several books like that and really enjoyed them. Just not this one.

Historia
Bob Johansson didn't believe in an afterlife, so waking up after being killed in a car accident was a shock. To add to the surprise, he is now a sentient computer and the controlling intelligence for a Von Neumann probe. Bob and his copies have been spreading out from Earth for 40 years now, looking for habitable planets. But that's the only part of the plan that's still in one piece.

this is what all science fiction should be
Revisado: 11-27-17
this story is funny, serious, and also attempts to stay as close to actual science as possible. you can relate to all of the characters. it is a great work of Science Fiction for people who may not be big science fiction fans.

Historia
Twelve Years a Slave tells the amazing story of a free Black man who in 1841 is taken away from his family and sold into slavery in the deep south of the United States. Solomon Northop takes us with him on his most unfortunate Journey through the days of slavery. A journey no human being should ever endure. We feel his pain as he wakes up with his arms and legs bound in the chains of slavery. Will he ever get to see his wife or hold his children in his arms again?

Skipped sections
Revisado: 05-17-16
The voice actors inflection did not always match the situation. Poor editing made obvious when two separate readings were being cut together. Most significantly, there are several portions of the story that simply jump ahead. This was very frustrating because it happened at several critical moments. There are several sections that I don't know what happened. This greatly took away from the overall experience. The story itself was excellent.
