Larissa Reinhart writes an intricate, fast-moving storyline with VERY well-developed characters. This installment finds Maizie still working at A.S.S. (Albright Security Solutions) and is feeling typecast as honey trap bait while Nashville is working at DeerNose as a security expert, trying to uncover DeerNose secrets. The secret he is trying to uncover (and keep from Maizie) unfortunately crosses paths with the mystery that Maizie finds herself enmeshed. You have to read to find out: Where is the very last place Maizie expects to find Nash's Silverado hidden? Which of the seven deadly sins does Maizie think Boomer is guilty? Which female does Maizie spy Nash eating pancakes with at the Waffle Haus late at night? What is a bullmastiff and why is it have the name Cuddles, and why is it eating a car? Joan Dukore is excellent as narrator and brings Maizie to life. I love this series!

First off, I love this narrator. She makes all the characters come to life. I love how the author raises the serious subject of domestic abuse, but adds enough humor to the storyline to keep from being depressing. The surprise at the end, though! Love the continued evolution of all the characters. This author is fearless. This is the best installment yet!

Cherry is back and as feisty as ever! To get away from the drama she is experiencing at home with the arrest of her brother and her romance with Luke on hold, Cherry accepts a commission to paint the winner who bags Hogzilla. Todd is back as Cherry's sweet sidekick and protector, along with many colorful characters. Joan Dukore does a fabulous job of bringing each character to life in her voice narration. The mystery was intricately woven with southern charm and grit. It wasn't my favorite Cherry Tucker installment, I was possibly just missing Luke, just as Cherry was, but Buckshot was a great addition. 0

Growing Pains for Maizie

“I’m wondering if I’m really cut out for this PI business. Or if I’m just trying to show everyone I’m more than a has-been actress. That I can actually do something other than pretending to be someone else.”

This seems to be the theme of the book. Maizie is struggling to find her footing with her career and with her private life.

The book starts with Maizie and Rhonda finding the body of Maizie’s former costume designer who has recently settled in Black Pine. As the bodies pile up, Maizie questions her decision to become a private investigator…was it just a whim? The mystery is a really good one and had me guessing until the very end. There are enough characters to make it interesting, but not too many to make it confusing. The character, Annie, is introduced to us as Maizie’s new boss and mentor in her new office, having begun working for Vicky.

While the mystery is fantastic, the parallel story is engrossing and perfectly woven. Maizie really wants to prove her worth as an independent private investigator, but in true Maizie fashion, she ends up trying to be an Annie-Nash mashup character as she tries to navigate through investigating the crime. This is certainly a more mature, serious (but not too) installment than previous outings, but it still has the comic elements that make Maizie and Nash so endearing (see Billy, the convertible).

While reading, many questions were rolling around in my brain:
Will Maizie spend one too many lunches and late-night phone calls with Ian?
Will Rhonda and Tiffany ever speak to her again?
Will Maizie ever find out why Nash is so preoccupied and where he has been every night?
Why does Maizie seem to hate the bed and new curtains in the office, and what’s her issue with the camo tie?
Is Maizie more like her mother than she realizes? [gasp!]
Who assaulted Lucky?
Will Nash lose not only his business, but also Maizie?

Joan Dukore once again brings this colorful cast of characters to life.

I received an ARC and got nothing done around the house until the story was told, Maizie and Nash being my secret obsession. This was the best installment so far, and that is saying a lot! Cannot wait until 19 is written!

Once again, Joan does a wonderful job narrating these books. Her voice gives a vivid image of our sweet, but fearless Maizie.

This go round begins with our loveable Maizie and swoon-worthy Nash doing mundane security jobs (and not mixing business with pleasure) for their new employer Vicki (the mother we all love to hate). The real mystery begins when Vicki calls in a panic demanding their presence at her castle to investigate a mysterious bullet hole in her front door while she is hosting a house party of high flying actors and their minions. After one of the guests vanishes, Maizie and Nash head to Florida where they find the missing person who soon becomes a found corpse. Nash stays behind in Florida and Maizie heads back to Vicki's to find some answers. The story ends in an exciting climax in more ways than one.

The side story is just as thrilling as the mystery. Maizie and her father have a falling out. Nash and Vicki have a falling out. Maizie and Nash have a falling out. Hidden secrets are revealed. New relationships abound. Remi is as adorable as ever adding comic relief in every scene she's in. The only thing missing was Giulio....the loveable airhead, and Jolene Sweeney...Nash's achilles heel.

The sign of a great author is one that is not afraid to develop and change the character's relationships and offer them personal growth. Ms. Reinhart does that well in this installment. I cannot wait to see what happens next for Maizie and Nash.

Shizzles! How Does She Get in these Situations!

My girl, Maizie, is back and she gets herself in the thick of things again. I mean, what in the hellsbah! When I picture Maizie in my mind she is Reese Witherspoon's character in the Legally Blonde series. Even though she worked in a cut-throat industry, she has a naivity and sweetness about her that is endearing. Add sexy, bad boy, Wyatt Nash to the mix, and you get chemistry off the charts!

Nash is in a coma for most of the book after trying to intercept a bank robbery and a bomb goes off. Spunky little Maizie takes control and tries to solve the mystery of a missing YouTube star while trying to figure out what in the shizzle is going on at Wellspring Spa where Oliver is now employed....yes, the ex-fiance who is responsible for her being on probation! Craptastic. All this and trying to solve the mystery of what is going on with the bank robber and his mother.

Just one hilarious scene. Maizie gets in a tiff with her cosmetologist girlfriends and ends up coloring her own hair. She is trying to explain to Oliver why she looks like a pumpkin. "I did my own hair with something called Color'n ShineMo. Bought it from a store called SaveMo." Her voice cracks with a sob. "It's so cheap it doesn't have all the letters in the name."

The audio version is wonderful because Joan does a great rendition of Maizie and really brings out her personality. Hearing her talk in Maizie's voice in her Downton Abbey accent when she feels herself going off the rails is pretty amusing.

Overall, loved it, and cannot wait for 18 Caliber to be released on audio. These are such a treat!

This is an excellent rom-com with a solid mystery as the backdrop. Maizie is endearing with her secret thoughts, "No need for Leonard to be a lot in touch," and Maizie's supporting characters are colorful and well-developed. Giulio Belloni (yes, think Oscar Meyer here) is outrageous, exacerbating, and just plain hilarious. Wyatt Nash is as sexy as ever and it is fun watching him try to stay all-buttoned up around "Miss Albright." Please see my full review for this piece in Amazon under the kindle book section.

I have the book form and Maizie and Nash are currently my favorite detecting duo. I love the audio version because I can listen while on walks, in bed when I can't sleep, just anywhere. Some narrators have cringe-worthy interpretations of the material and/or annoying voices. This narrator depicts Maizie just as I invision her. Well done!
